Minutes of the Meeting of the Council of the European Association

of American Square Dance Clubs held on 18 November 1957

The meeting was called to order by the President, Fred Weber at 2045 hours.

The following members of the Board were present!

Fred Weber (President)

Dick Baughman (Vice President)

Mary Slora (Secretary)

Ed Duskin (Treasurer)

Merle Basom (Vice President Callers Association)

Criss Cross (Chairman of Publicity & Publications)

1. The Treasurer reported the balance on hand as of 18 November.

Balance                                           $ 264.11

Dues from 1 member club                 10.00

Profit from Winter Jamboree

submitted by Boots & Ruffles            50.55

Total                                                $ 324.66

2. Clubs to be contacted requesting their permission to expend $40.00 for Easy Key Handbooks.

3. Dick Baughman reported printing plate has still not arrived for stationery.

4. The Secretary read the letter dated 6 November 57 received from Mr. O.V. Cannon the Hon-Sec of the British Association of American Square Dance Clubs. Dick Baughman suggested Merle be spokesman for the Board while attending the English Square Dance Festival in December. Merle Basom was delegated the authority by the board to come to some agreement with Mr. Cannon.

5. Dick Baughman submitted the file report on the Winter Jamboree complete with letter of recommendation from the Boots and Ruffles for future jamborees.

6. The President reported he had talked with Miss Abbey indicating we had the authority to admit "affiliated" clubs to the Association. He asked for her suggestions on the matter but she had none to offer at the present time, but indicated that their finances are rather low as most of the group are students. It was decided by the board that a fee of DM 20.00 would be charged for the Association year with non-voting rights. Miss Abbey to be contacted as to the possibility of them receiving some kind of instruction in order to spare them embarrassment at the Jamborees. Merle offered to help them out once every 2 months and Dieter Henk offered his services as an interpreter.

7. Fred also discussed the Worlds Fair with Miss Abbey and Betty Casey. Miss Abbey felt the first step would be to write to the Public Affairs Office of the American Embassy in Brussels, Belgium.

8. The site for the Annual Roundup was chosen tentatively at Chiemsee Rest Center. The only possibility would be to have the Officers Club, PHV for Sunday and Monday of the Labor Day Weekend and perhaps Saturday at the Casino with two rooms, one for advanced dancing and one for low level dancing. It was felt however, that Chiemsee would have a decided advantage with everyone in one place. It was decided that Fred would contact Chiemsee as to housing arrangements and obtaining extra accommodations on the German economy e.g. Prien.

9. Dick Baughman suggested contacting Mory Gelman, Kuntry Kuzins to establish two prices for admission to the Spring Jamboree, one for Clubs who have already paid dues and those who haven't.

10. Letter to be dispatched to all Clubs asking for bids for summer jamboree.

11. Fred reported nonappropriated funds are not available for sponsoring a Caller for the Annual Roundup. General Martin suggested contacting SAD if they perhaps would be willing to assist if the Callers transportation was borne by the Association. Fred pointed out that there were three alternatives, using local callers - have a caller from the States which would cost upward of $1,500 or hope that something favorable turns up later, on use of nonappropriated funds. Dick thought perhaps Bruce Johnson or other name callers might be available by arranging their tour to finish in New York sometime next year around Labor Day Weekend. It was decided that Fred write to the Callers and pick-up the tenure from their answers as to how they feel about the situation.

12. The News Letter was discussed. It will include the following:
