On November
5, 1959 at the Continental
Hotel in Paris, a meeting of the European Association
of American Square Dancers was called to order by Joe Madrano, the Vice President,
in the absence of the President, Wes Keyson.
Since there were no other officers present the
minutes and the treasurer's report were not given.
The other officers were named so that the other
clubs would know who they were. Namely, Glen Sirion as Secretary and John Baumgartner
as Treasurer. All officers are from the Beaux and Belles of Frankfurt a/Main,
Germany.
The subject of the age of teenagers at the jamborees
and round ups was a main topic of discussion. Since many clubs do not have an
age limit as individual clubs and since some of them have been able to have
families because of the children coming, it was thought best to defer any definite
decision until the delegates could take the question up in their own clubs
and discuss it. Also, that the association would
send out letters to all clubs asking how they feel about the age limit and explaining
the situation. There is a group of teenagers being taught in Ramstein and
they have asked for admission to the association. It was also suggested that
they be allowed to come to the jamborees and round ups but keep in their own
groups. Especially since age seems to have nothing to do with the size of the
person. The callers could handle this.
It was confirmed that the Spring Jamboree will be
held in Ramstein on March 19, 1960, probably at the Officers Club but that
will be verified later. Lou Herrick is General Chairman.
Since there were no volunteers for the July
Jamboree, no action was taken.
Joe Madrano brought up the subject of membership
cards and whether they had to be made up with the definite dates on them or
if it would not be possible to have cards made up that could be used from
year to year with a fill in blank for the dates. This would mean that the
cards would not have to be own away as formerly. It was voted to do this.
It was also brought up that any club having a
constitution, a board of officers and meeting the dancing requirements, if
eligible to belong to the EAASDC by submitting a letter of request to the
Association and a copy of their constitution.
Two new clubs were accepted into the Association:
the Darmstompers of Darmstadt, Germany
the One Wing Squares of Marville, France
It was also brought up, that the EAASDC must be
registered with the Army and authority from Frankfurt Post for the Fall Round
Up.
It was recommended that the new constitution of the
EAASDC be sent to all member clubs.
Mac McGuire from Wiesbaden suggested that we have more publicity. He has been
asked by Sets in Order to act as their news writer for Europe but he can't send in news until the clubs send it
to him. So perhaps, that could be put in a letter to the clubs with his
address and then he could get the news out.
It was also, suggested that, all clubs send in a
list of their new officers, as soon as elected, to the Association Secretary
and to each member club.
Tex Hencerling suggested that the policy on callers
be made clear to each club so that they know when they sponsor a jamboree.
The master of ceremonies is of course, admitted free and he does not charge
for the job. Tex felt that all callers on the printed
program and their female companions should be admitted free. It seems they
have been until this last jamboree but that was due to the fact that the
policy was not known or had not been set down.
There was quite a discussion on whether the
jamborees should be just one day because of the distance some folks have to
travel. It was suggested that the delegates talk to their own clubs about
this and be ready to answer at the next meeting.
A note of thanks was given to the Paris Squares for
the fine job they did on this jamboree.
The meeting was then adjourned.
