Minutes of the General Membership Meeting
European Association of American Square Dance Clubs
5 September 1971
The general membership meeting of the European Association of American Square Dance Clubs (EAASDC) was called to order by the Association President Marvin Leibowitz on 5 September 1971 at 1020 hours at the Stadt Sporthalle in Darmstadt, Hesse, West Germany. The minutes of the last meeting were approved. Roll was called. 24 clubs were present.
The Treasurer reported a balance of $ 254.36 not counting the current Round Up expenses or the 1972 dues that had been received. The treasurer also read the audit report. No problems were noted. Both reports were approved.
Tony Miller of the Frankfurt Beaux & Belles announced that the Winter Jamboree would he held at the Platen Community Elementary school 26-28 November 1971.
Nancy Converse reviewed the USAREUR interpretation of the regulation concerning non-American membership in private associations. USAREUR accepts non-American membership providing the association in question has no Non-appropriated fund (NAF) number, serves or sells no customs controlled items and is mostly American. Clubs that meet these requirements can hold regular association membership. The association will request this interpretation in writing from USAREUR, USAFE and USNAVREUR and distribute the answer to clubs.
Marv Leibowitz announced that the Student Jamboree will be held in Karlsruhe, 4 December 1971.
Marc discussed the status of Square Dance Week. There will be announcements on local AFN stations. Bob Shrewsbury is in charge of the Square Dance Week publicity. Al Zimmerman said no opportunity arose during the Kuntry Kuzins demonstration in Belgium to discuss a Square Dance Week proclamation with he SHAPE Commander.
Two new clubs joined EAASDC and two inactive older clubs were re-instated at the Round Up.
The Di-Si-Do Dance group of the Hague, Holland presented its governing rules and requested membership. This club dances on Friday nights. Bob Falsone moved that the Do-Si-Do Dance group be admitted. Allen Nickelson seconded the motion. Motion approved.
The Berlin Twirl-Aways presented a request for membership and a constitution approved by their area commander. Andy Anderson reviewed the clubs activities. They dance Friday nights at the TAR school in Berlin. Mickey Franz made a motion to approve their membership as a regular member club and Rainer Scheiblich seconded it. Motion approved.
The Turkey Trotters of Karamusel, requested re-activation for their club. Vic Chiolak reported that the club danced on Saturday night. Al Zimmerman moved that the Turkey Trotters be re-activated. Wayne Dreyer seconded the motion. Motion passed.
The Buttons & Bows of Sembach requested re-activation also. Nancy Converse stated that the club dances on Tuesday nights at the Sembach Recreation center. Wayne Dreyer made a motion to approve their re-activation. It was seconded and approved.
The constitution for the Bavarian Stompers, approved and signed by the Augsburg area commander, has been received. The constitution for the Darmstadt Darmstompers is still pending.
The Berlin Square Dance Association bid for the Spring Jamboree to be held in Berlin tentatively from 14-16 April 1972. Access to Berlin was discussed by the membership. Tom Hart made a motion that this bid be accepted and a member of the Glow Worms seconded the motion. Motion approved. Details of the arrangements and guidelines for the trip to Berlin will be published in the Chatterbox.
Wayne Dreyer presented a tentative bid from the International Squares for the Summer Jamboree.
Chuck Converse was presented to the membership as the only candidate for the Presidency. Vic Chiolak moved that he be elected by acclamation. Al Zimmerman seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Marv thanked the Strutters and Kurt Germann and the Darmstompers for the work they all had done on the Round Up. He asked that the survey sheets from the Chatterbox be completed and turned in as an aid to planning the next Round Up. Bill Renn questioned the children's rate payment in the flyers and said he had to pay the adult rate for children at the door. Marv acknowledged that a mistake could have been made and that a refund would be forthcoming. Bob Shrewsbury asked how many were present but an official count was not available. Between 55 and 60 squares was the estimate. Wayne Dreyer urged the entire membership to come and hear the SIO callers' leadership presentation. He felt that these discussions were most informative for all.
Marv thanked the other Council members and the dancers for a wonderful year. He then reminded the membership that the Association dues were now payable.
Bill Renn announced the Mainz Masters Halloween/Anniversary Dance on 30 October 1971. Wayne Dreyer announced the International Square Tea Dance on 3 October 1971. Al Zimmerman invited all to the Kuntry Kuzins Anniversary Dance on 25 March 1972. And Rolf Bauer invited all to the Karlsruhe Kut Ups Faschings Special Dance am 15 January 1972. Andy Anderson announced a tour group dance in Berlin on May 1972.
