MINUTES of the GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN SQUARE DANCE CLUBS 1 JULY 1972
The general membership meeting of the European Association of American Square Dance Clubs (EAASDC) was called to order by the Association President Chuck Converse on 1 July 1972 at 1425 hours at the Community Center in Wiesbaden. There were 28 clubs present at roll call. Minutes of the last meeting were approved. Harry Waldbart gave the treasurer’s report and it was accepted as read.
Chuck Converse gave a report on the Round Up to be held at the Bürgerhaus in Mörfelden on 1, 2, and 3 September. He stated that there were maps, hotel listings and advance registration forms available for those who wanted them. Chuck also said that EAASDC will not make any money on this dance and will use it as an opportunity to give something to the dancers.
Square Dance Week has been set for 10 - 16 September to coincide with the time most clubs and callers will be starting new classes. Posters and bumper strips are available for each club free of charge.
There were three new clubs requesting membership in EAASDC. The Arabian Hoedowners of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia requested membership. Harry and Verna Calladine had paid their membership dues as a result of their tour in that area. Chuck had a copy of the club’s constitution and it was in order. Their club was voted into the association.
The Flak Flingers requested membership. Red Horten of this club stated that at present they have five couples in the club and three and a half squares of students. Will Tammen is the caller for this club. They dance on Wednesday from 7:30 to 10:00 at the Flak Service Club in Ludwigsburg. The club constitution has been approved by the base commander. They were voted on and approved for membership in the Association.
Shuffling Squares of Shape, Belgium also requested membership.
By Falkenthall, stated that the club has three squares and dances the first and third Saturday at the school cafeteria. The Association did net have a copy of their club constitution, but Chuck recommended voting pending receipt of their constitution. This club was approved for membership pending receipt of their constitution.
Chuck opened bids for the Winter Jamboree. Mannheim Mixers was the only club to bid on this Jamboree. Mannheim Mixers will sponsor the Winter Jamboree.
Chuck then asked the nominating committee to give their nominations for President of EAASDC. Chuck Smith, Chairman of the committee, thanked the other members for their efforts. The committee’s nominations for President of EAASDC are Bob and Gundy Rausch of the Wagon Wheels and Vern and Josie Hoover of the Heidelberg Hoedowners. Chuck thanked the nominating committee and asked for any nominations from the floor. There were none and Jim Brennan of the Round Wheelers made a motion to close the nominations. This was seconded by Bill Noaks of the Kitzingen Klodhoppers. The motion passed.
