Minutes of EAASDC General Membership Meeting 29 May 1976
The General Membership Meeting of the European Association of American Square Dance Clubs was called to order by the President, Ted Anthony, at 1030 on 29 May 1976 at the Patrick Henry Village Officers Club, Heidelberg, Germany. There were 50 clubs represented at roll call. This is believed to be the most clubs ever to attend an EAASDC Jamboree or Round Up.
Motion was made, seconded and carried to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the last meeting as a copy was mailed to all clubs some months previously.
The financial statement was read and approved.
OLD BUSINESS Ted re-emphasized that charter/copywright dances were granted for names only and not for dates. Dates must be requested between 12 and 6 months in advance.
There was much discussion concerning the EAASDC Calendar of Events. Ted reminded all those present that the purpose of the calendar was to organize the Square Dance Year and to avoid having several clubs conducting Special Dances on the same date. Motion was made, seconded and carried to keep the current copywright dances and to limit each club to one Special Dance per year. A motion that would allow any club wanting to, to advertise a dance in conflict with the calendar of events in the Chatterbox, was made, seconded and defeated.
A report on the upcoming Summer Jamboree was presented by a representative of the Kuntry Kuzins. A report on this years Annual Round Up preparations was given by a representative of the Buttons and Bows.
Ted announce that EAASDC and ECTA board members were to have a special meeting with Rolf Schuster, Editor/Publisher of the Chatterbox, concerning editorial policy and to recapture control of our magazine or to find a new editor more willing to respond to the needs of the Dancers' Association.
NEW BUSINESS Six new clubs were accepted into the Associations: The Silhouettes of Ansbach, Germany; The Toro Twirlers and the Rota Whirlaways of Rota, Spain; the Square Ups of Berlin; The Seaside Swingers of Bremerhaven; and the Hamburgers of Hamburg.
The Calendar of Events was corrected to add the Farewell Dance for Tom and Gina Crisp on 4 June 76; the Cheeseheads Dance scheduled for 10 and 11 Sep 76 was cancelled; and the Paws and Taws Harvest Ball for 16 Oct 76 was added.
Ted announced the members of the nominating committee for EAASDC President: Wayne Page - Chairman Cy and Barbara Taylor Al St. Onge Gerhard and Helma Kafka Bill Hudson
Ted informed all present that the 25th National Convention in Anaheim, California would require Square Dance attire for all functions to include business meetings. He also encouraged everyone to wear Square Dance attire for all EAASDC dances.
A suggestion was made that all clubs should provide their military telephone prefix for the club listing in the Chatterbox.
Ted proposed the following people be considered for Honorary Lifetime Membership in the Association: Cal Golden, Bill Brocket, Tex Hencerling, Harold Dean, Steve Stephens, Corky Pell, Chris Vear and Julius Nestor.
Ted announced that negotiations were being made for a Country Store to operate for EAASDC.
None of the dubs present offered to bid for the Winter 76 Jamboree. The Holland Windmillers and The Stintfang presented a bid for the Spring 77 Jamboree. The vote taking was held until the Summer 76 Jamboree in July.
Motion was made, seconded and carried for adjournment at 1300.
