Minutes of General Membership Meeting 2 April 1977, Spring Jamboree
The General Membership Meeting of the European Association of American Square Dance Clubs (EAASDC) was called to order by the Association President Steve Nutbrown, on 2. April 1977 in Hamburg. There were representatives present from 44 clubs at roll call. Minutes of the last ting were approved as written. The Treasurer's report was given and approved.
An important thing that has to be avoided in future: dancers who make hotel or Youth hostel reservations through the host club of a Jamboree and don't come or go to another hotel bring the host club in big trouble because they have to pay for all the expenses. So please, if the host club is so kind to make your reservations / take it.
Damages in dancing halls have happened and can always happen again. Therefore we need to have an insurance to cover.
The Summer Jamboree '77 is being hosted by the Shape Shuffling Squares in Belgium on the 8., 9. and 10. July. The entrance fee is 2.50 dollars only; because of the low fee there is no special rate for preregistration. There will be free accommodation in the dance hall for the first interested 150 dancers (bring your sleeping bags). Four rooms with 20 beds each are available in the Sportcenter close by the dancing hall. Without breakfast the price will be approximately 2.50 dollars. There is room for campers; hot dogs, hamburgers and refreshments will be sold right by the dance hall. The Summer Jamboree badge will serve as identification for non-military dancers on the base. So please, wear your badge all the time.
The Round Up will be held on the Labourday Weekend (2., 3., 4.September) in Nellingen, Stuttgart by the three Stuttgart clubs. Dick Persich is the point of contact for this event. The entrance fee is only 1 dollar for dancers with "green card", for persons without it is 3 dollars. Sleeping accommodations in hotels, youth hostels; also camping. Tours through Stuttgart are planned for Labourday. Information packages are available at the Summer Jamboree.
Joint Board Meeting points: a) The ECTA sound equipment is not necessarily brought to a Jamboree by ECTA. The host club either has to pick it up itself or make arrangement with ECTA to bring it. b) Rudi is afraid some people might not know why his comments are a little rough sometimes when he is criticizing callers on the Caller's Critique (Sunday morning of each Jamboree). This is necessary sometimes to teach new callers and Rudi wants to tell the dancers about it, so that they don't think, he is just mean. (Comment from Siegfried Sassmann, he doesn't mind if the callers are put down every once and a while... c) Explanation of challenge: 68 basics plus Quarterly movements.
Unfortunately we didn't get a bid for the Winter Jamboree '77. But don't worry, we'll have it somewhere.
After a long, long discussion we voted to have the Spring Jamboree '78 in Dortmund on 7., 8. and 9 April. The other choice was Berlin. The hall in Dortmund is about 45 by 30 meters, there is space for 100 caravans; swimming pool and sauna are right, across the street. More information on coming Jamborees.
The Student Jamboree will be held on 3. December '77, a host club is still needed.

Steve reminded us of the "banner stealing rules". Please don't take the caller's or president's belt, badge, exc, when the club banner is not available.
On the open discussion we were talking about the Friendship Barrel, which is in Hamburg at the time. So many badges get lost when the barrel gets transported from one place to another. On the Summer Jamboree we will hear some more suggestions to avoid the loss of more badges.

Protokoll der Vollversammlung vom 2. April 1977, Spring Jamboree
Die Vollversammlung der European Association of American Square Dance Clubs (EAASDC), wurde am 2. April 1977 vom Association Präsidenten Steve Nutbrown in Hamburg eröffnet. Es waren Repräsentanten von 44 Clubs anwesend. Das Protokoll der letzten Versammlung wurde ebenso Kassenbericht ohne Änderung angenommen.
Leider kommt es immer wieder vor, dass Tänzer, die ein Zimmer im Hotel oder einer Jugendherberge durch den Host Club gebucht haben, nicht erscheinen oder in ein anderes Hotel ziehen. Dies bringt den Host Club in große Geldschwierigkeiten, weil er für die Hotelkosten aufkommen muss. Bitte vermeidet das in Zukunft.
Es kann leicht geschehen (und ist auch schon passiert), dass Tanzhallen beschädigt werden. Um dagegen abgesichert zu sein, brauchen wir eine Versicherung.
Das Summer Jamboree wird am 8., 9. und 10. Juli 77 von den Shape Shuffling Squares veranstaltet; Der Eintrittspreis betragt nur 2,50 Dollar, wegen des niedrigen Preises besteht keine Vorverkaufsermäßigung. Für die ersten interessierten 150 Tänzer besteht die Möglichkeit, mit Schlafsacken in der Halle zu übernachten; 4 Zimmer à 20 Betten stehen im Sportzentrum in der Nähe der Halle für 2,50 Dollar pro Nacht (ohne Frühstück), zur Verfügung. Für Wohnwagen ist Platz hinter der Halle. Hot Dogs, Hamburger, etc. werden bei der Halle verkauft. Als Identifikation für Nicht-Militärpersonen ist es erforderlich, auf dem Militärgelände unbedingt das Summer Jamboree Badge zu tragen.

Punkte, die bei der Joint Board Meeting zur Sprache kamen: a) Der Host Club einer Jamboree muss sich selbst darum kümmern, dass das ECTA Sound Equipment zur Veranstaltung transportiert wird und es entweder selbst abholen oder nach Absprache durch die ECTA mitbringen lassen. b) Rudi fürchtet, dass manche Tänzer möglicherweise den ab und zu etwas rauen Umgangston missverstehen, der zeitweise bei der Callers Critic herrscht (Sonntag Vormittag jeder Jamboree). Manchmal ist das ganz einfach notwendig; Rudi möchte also keinem etwas Böses. (Kommentar von Siegfried Sassmann, er hätte gar nichts dagegen, wenn auch die Caller mal etwas getriezt würden ...). c) Bedeutung von "Challenge": 68 Basics mit den Quarterly movements.
Leider bat kein Club um die Winter Jamboree 77. Aber keine Sorge, irgendwo wird sie bestimmt stattfinden!
Nach langer, langer Diskussion stimmten wir ab, dass die Spring Jamboree 78 in Dortmund stattfindet. Zur Wahl stand noch Berlin. Diese Jamboree wird am 7., 8. und 9. April von den Soest Belles & Beaux veranstaltet. Die Halle umfasst etwa 1300 Quadratmeter, es ist Platz für etwa 50 Wohnwagen; Schwimmbad und Sauna sind gegenüber der Halle gelegen. Mehr Information darüber bei den kommenden Jamborees.
Die Student Jamboree wird am 3. Dezember '77 veranstaltet, ein Host Club wird noch gesucht.

Steve erinnerte an die Banner stealing Regeln. Bitte nehmt nicht des Callers Gürtel, Badge o.ä., wenn das Clubbanner nicht zur Verfügung steht.
Bei der "offenen Diskussion" sprachen wir über das Friendship Barrel, das sich zurzeit in Hamburg befindet. Beim Transport des Fasses gehen leider immer sehr viele Badges verloren. Bei der Summer Jamboree werden wir einige Vorschläge hören, wie man den Verlust der Badges vermeiden kann.
