Minutes of General Membership Meeting,

Round Up, 2 September 1978

The general membership meeting of the European Association of American Square Dance Clubs (EAASDC) was called to order by the Association President Tom Kalal, on 2 September 1978, in Augsburg. There were representatives present from 44 clubs at roll call. The Treasurer's report was given and approved. There was a change to the minutes of the last meeting. Skip Brown, Treasurer of EAASDC, will complete his term in office, even though he will become a caller.

OLD BUSINESS

Spring Jamboree. The four clubs from Berlin will host the Spring Jamboree on 27, 28 and 29 of April 1979 in the Schöneberger Sporthalle. (Several Jamborees were held there before). It is planned to have a sightseeing-tour, a nightclub-visit and the dance in the radio-tower. Flyers will be sent to all clubs.

Winter Jamboree. The Winter Jamboree will be held on 8, 9 and 10 of December 1978 by the Mannheim Mixers in Ketsch, in the same hall, where the Summer Jamboree took place. There is no preregistration. Flyers were given out at the Round Up; the October- and November-issue of the Chatterbox will also have a flyer with map. Nursery service will be provided. Plans are made to keep the dance as inexpensive as possible.

NEW BUSINESS

Letters in the Chatterbox. Tom, not having read the Chatterbox, but having heard discussion about it, made the following comments; he never told Rudi Pohl to quit, merely told him that he should not run for President again. Tom is of the opinion that the Chatterbox is for the dancers information only, and only facts should be printed. Rolf Schuster mentioned that he printed articles that were forwarded to him. Tom said, dancers with problems of any kind, should talk them over with the EAASDC-Board.

Elections. Jim Thrasher and Don Hughes introduced their Boards and we voted on the new EAASDC-President. It is Don Hughes. His Vice President is Jim Thrasher, Secretary Marie-Luise Döring, Treasurer Skip Brown, Special Projects Bill Taylor, Liaison to ECTA Susan Herrington. Congratulations! Don thanked the membership for their confidence and will try to solve all coming problems.

New clubs. Two new clubs were voted in EAASDC:

1. Castaways, Italy

2. Blackmountain S.D.C, Hamburg.

Congratulations!

ECTA. ECTA had been a committee of EAASDC since the Spring Jamboree because their new Constitution was not approved. We voted now on abolishing this committee because ECTA's Constitution is approved and they are no longer a committee.

President Comments. Tom Kalal thanked his Board for their work during this year, but especially thanked the membership for their support. He also thanked his wife, Renate Kalal, who was always sitting aside without getting any recognition. Tom said without her he could not have done anything.

Open discussion. Several traveling banners were returned to clubs which never returned a visit.

The Darmstompers bid for the Winter Jamboree of 1979 was approved and it will take place on 7, 8 and 9 December.

Since the price for the Chatterbox was raised 2.- respectively 4.- because of higher mailing-costs, it was asked if the EAASDC membership dues had to be raised for that reason also. Tom said this decision would have to be made by the new EAASDC Board.

Motion for adjournment was made and seconded.
