Minutes of General Membership Meeting,

Spring Jamboree, 8 April 1978

The general membership meeting of the European Association of American Square Dance Clubs (EAASDC) was called to order by the Association President Tom Kalal, on 8 April 1978, in Dortmund. There were representatives present from 36 clubs at roll call. The Treasurer's report was given and approved. Because of technical difficulties we could not reproduce the minutes in time, and I apologize.

OLD BUSINESS

Summer Jamboree. Susan Herrington gave a report on the Summer Jamboree, which will be held by the Heidelberg Hoedowners on the 7, 8 and 9 of July. It will not take place in PHV like it was planned, but in the Rheinhalle in Ketsch. There will be an Afterparty with a life-band; camping space is available right at the hall. Information packages will be sent to your clubs.

Round Up. The Round Up will be held in Augsburg on 1, 2 and 3 September. If you are planning on staying in a youth hostel or a hotel, you will have to pay for it when you preregister for the dance. Prizes are between 7,- and 35,- DM per person and night.

Green cards. After a long discussion about the sense and the utility of the green cards, the motion was made to eliminate the green card for 1979, to find out if we can do without it, by vote of 38 to 12. Dancers who had been using their cards as an Installation Pass to go into military facilities, should try to get in with their old one and talk to EAASDC when this is not possible.

NEW BUSINESS

Special Projects. We needed a replacement for Fran Hartman, who had been, the Special Projects Director for the past few months, because she had to go back to the States. Thank you for your work, Fran. Welcome to the new Directors Jim and Edith Thrasher.

ECTA. ECTA is requesting a copy of your caller's schedule 3 months prior to a Jamboree your club is hosting. In the future there will be a 15 minute break between Round dance and Square dance workshops; Caller's and Teacher's critique on Sunday morning will be from 0900-1200.

Student Jamboree. The Student Jamboree will take place on 3 June in Birkenfeld in a different, a little smaller hall, than originally planned.

Winter Jamboree. Please note two changes, that the Mannheim Mixers had to make: it will be on 8, 9 and 10 December (not 1,2,3) in the Rheinhalle in Ketsch (not the Buergerhaus in Viernheim).

Nominating Committee. Please give our nominating committee all the assistance it needs to find a good EAASDC President for next year. These people are looking for your suggestions: Larry and Elaine Nelson, Bam Spurgeon and Don and Peggy Hughes.

Congratulations!

38 Basics-clubs. Heiner Fischle, caller for the Happy Squares, Hannover, who are dancing 38 basics only plus mixers and contra dances, was asking generally if clubs of this kind are welcome in EAASDC. After a long discussion the motion was made to add to our Constitution By-Laws: only clubs that reach the mainstream level will become a member of EAASDC. All present representatives voted for this motion, there was one abstaining.

Jamboree Bids. The Berlin Square Dance Association (BSDA) made and received the bid for the Spring Jamboree of 1979.

Board - Comments. Skip Brown said, that there were still 19 clubs that didn't pay their dues for 1978.

Ilse-Wersin is collecting information about each EAASDC club. She thanked those clubs supporting her.

Tom Kalal reminded the dancers again, that drinking and dancing goes as well as drinking and driving.

Tom thanked the Soest Belles & Beaux for a good Jamboree.

Spring Jamboree, Dortmund

Die Vollversammlung der European Association of American Square Dance Clubs (EAASDC) wurde am 8. April 1978 vom Association Präsidenten Tom Kalal in Dortmund eröffnet. Es waren Repräsentanten von 38 Clubs anwesend. Der Kassenbericht wurde ohne Änderung angenommen; leider war es uns wegen technischer Schwierigkeiten nicht möglich, die Protokolle rechtzeitig zu kopieren. Ich bitte dafür um Entschuldigung.

ALTE ANGELEGENHEITEN

Summer Jamboree. Susan Herrington berichtete über die Summer Jamboree, die am 7., 8. und 9. Juli von den Heidelberg Hoedowners veranstaltet wird, und zwar nicht wie ursprünglich geplant in Patrick Henry Village, sondern in der Rheinhalle in Ketsch. Bei der Afterparty spielt eine Life-Band; Camping ist bei der Halle möglich, Informationspäckchen werden Euren Clubs noch zugesandt.

Round Up. Das Round-Up findet am l., 2. und 3. September in Augsburg statt. Wer in einer Jugendherberge oder einem Hotel übernachten will, muss den Preis (zwischen 7,- und 35,- DM pro Person) gleich bei der Preregistration bezahlen.

Green cards. Nach einer langen Diskussion über den Sinn und die Notwendigkeit der "Green cards" wurde der Antrag gestellt, die grüne Karte für das Jahr 1979 abzuschaffen, um festzustellen, ob wir ohne sie auskommen. Die Abstimmung verlief mit 38 Ja- zu 12 Nein-Stimmen für die Abschaffung. Tänzer, die ihre Karte bisher als Pass dazu benutzt hatten, in Kasernengelände eingelassen zu werden, sollen dies weiterhin mit der alten Karte versuchen. Werden ihnen ohne gültige green card Schwierigkeiten gemacht, sollen sie sich bitte an EAASDC wenden.

NEUE ANGELEGENHEITEN

Special Projects. Wir brauchten einen Ersatz für Fran Hartman, die bisher Special Projects Director gewesen war und nun in die Staaten zurückkehrte. Vielen Dank für Deine Arbeit, Fran, und weiterhin alles Gute. Die neuen Special Projects Directors sind Jim und Edith Thrasher.

ECTA. ECTA bittet darum, drei Monate vor Stattfinden einer Jamboree das vollständige Caller-Programm zugesandt zu bekommen. Zwischen Round Dance- und Square Dance-Workshops wird in Zukunft eine fünfzehnminütige Pause eingelegt. Caller's Critique bzw. Round Dance Leader's Meeting findet künftig von 9-12 Uhr am Sonntagvormittag statt.

Student Jamboree. Die Student Jamboree wird am 3. Juni in Birkenfeld, in einer etwas kleineren Halle als ursprünglich vorgesehen, veranstaltet.

Winter Jamboree. Bitte vermerkt zwei Änderungen, die die Mannheim Mixers vornehmen mussten: Die Winter Jamboree findet am 8., 9, und 10. Dezember 1978 (nicht am l., 2. und 3.) in der Rheinhalle in Ketsch (nicht im Bürgerhaus Viernheim) statt.

Nominierungskomitee. Bitte gebt dem Nominierungskomitee alle Unterstützung, die es braucht, um einen guten EAASDC Präsidenten für 1979 zu finden. Das Komitee besteht aus Larry and Elaine Nelson, Pam Spurgeon, Don and Peggy Hughes.

38 Basics-Clubs. Heiner Fischle, Caller der Happy Squares aus Hannover, die nur 38 Basics plus Mixers und Contra Dances tanzen, wollte wissen, ob Clubs dieser Art bei der EAASDC willkommen seien. Nach einer sehr langen Diskussion wurde der Antrag gestellt, die Bylaws unserer Satzung dahingehend zu ändern, dass nur Clubs, die den Mainstream Level beherrschen, Mitglied unserer Vereinigung werden können. Die Änderung wurde einstimmig angenommen, es gab eine Stimmenthaltung.

Jamboree Bids. Die Berlin Square Dance Association (BSDA) bat um die Spring Jamboree 1979 und erhielt sie.

Board-Kommentare. Skip Brown sagte, es gäbe noch immer 19 Clubs, die ihren EAASDC Mitgliedsbeitrag nicht bezahlt hätten.

Ilse Wersin sammelt in einem Buch Informationsmaterial jedes EAASDC Clubs und bedankte sich bei allen, die sie darin unterstützten.

Tom erinnerte nochmals daran, dass sich das Trinken ebenso wenig mit dem Square Dance vereinbare wie das Trinken mit dem Autofahren.

Abschließend bedankte er sich bei den Soest Belles & Beaux für die gelungene Jamboree.

Antrag auf Beendigung der Meeting wurde gestellt und unterstützt.
