EAASDC is an association for all Square Dancing, Round Dancing and Clogging dance clubs within central Europe. The countries covered so far are Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Spain. We also have member clubs from other countries, such as the Czech Republic, Great Britain and Denmark. Today about 450 clubs are members of the association, about 90% from Germany.

The aims that we have achieved are

• Support and help in all questions concerning leading a club.
• Coverage of all rights in regard to the use of music for our activity.
• Coverage of some risks through insurance.
• Ongoing information exchange with other associations within Europe and abroad for the benefit of our further positive development.
• Providing the necessary information through the publishing of an international recognised magazine, the "EAASDC Bulletin".
• The offer of training for club officers according to tax laws and insurance questions.

EAASDC ist eine Vereinigung für alle Square Dance, Round Dance und Clogging tanzenden Clubs innerhalb Zentraleuropas. Die bisher vertretenen Länder sind Deutschland, Niederlande, Schweiz, Belgien, Österreich, Italien und Spanien. Darüber hinaus haben wir Mitgliedsclubs aus den folgenden Ländern: Tschechische Republik, Großbritannien und Dänemark. Zur Zeit sind ca. 450 Clubs Mitglied der Vereinigung, davon etwa 90% in Deutschland.

Die von uns erreichten Ziele sind

• Hilfe und Unterstützung in allen Fragen der Clubführung.
• Abdeckung aller Rechte bezüglich der Nutzung von Musik für unsere Aktivität.
• Abdeckung einiger Risiken durch ein Versicherungsangebot.
• Weitreichender Informationsaustausch mit anderen Vereinigungen innerhalb Europas und im Ausland zum Nutzen für eine weitere positive Einwicklung.
• Verbreitung der notwendigen Informationen durch die Herausgabe eines international anerkannten Magazins, dem "EAASDC Bulletin".
• Das Angebot zur Weiterbildung von Vorstandsmitgliedern in Steuer- und Versicherungsfragen.

In January 1959 several Callers founded the "European Area Square Dance Leaders Association" as a means of working together for a uniform goal - the preservation of Square Dancing and Caller-Education. In 1963 the name was changed in "European Callers and Teachers Association", in 1993 ECTA became a registered association based on German law. Today, ECTA is the largest Association of Square Dance Callers, Round Dance Cuers, Clogging Instructors and Contra Prompters in Europe with more than 400 members.

Our major goals are...

• The preservation and positive development of our activity.
• The representation of the interests of callers, cuers, instructors and prompters on the European Continent, acting as a contact-address for international organizations.
• Providing the local club callers, cuers, and instructors with adequate training and background information to help them improve their abilities for the benefit of our whole activity.

Im Januar 1959 gründeten einige Caller die "European Area Square Dance Leaders Association" in der Absicht, für ein einheitliches Ziel zusammenzuarbeiten - die Erhaltung des Square Dance und die Caller-Ausbildung. 1963 wurde der Name in "European Callers and Teachers Association" geändert, 1993 wurde ECTA ein "eingetragener Verein". Heute ist ECTA mit mehr als 400 Mitgliedern die größte Vereinigung von Square Dance Callern, Round Dance Cuern, Clogging Instruktoren und Contra Promptern in Europa.

Unsere Hauptziele sind ...

• Die Bewahrung und positive Entwicklung unserer Aktivität.
• Die Vertretung der Interessen der Caller, Cuer, Instructoren und Prompter auf dem europäischen Kontinent durch die Rolle als Ansprechpartner für internationale Organisationen.
• Die Versorgung der örtlichen Club-Caller, -Cuer und -Instruktoren mit angemessenem Training und Hintergrundinformation, als Hilfe zur Verbesserung ihrer Fähigkeiten zum Wohl unserer gesamten Aktivität.

CALLERLAB is the International Association of Square Dance Callers. We exist to improve square dancing: To recruit, promote, and maintain the square dance activity. As an organization of square dance callers, it is our mission to provide education and guidance to the leaders of our activity. CALLERLAB also maintains a suggested list of dancing programs, from Basic through C-3A.

CALLERLAB is an organization of leaders in the square dance community, a group of leaders dedicated to recruiting and teaching new dancers to appreciate the joys of square dancing. As callers, we have a responsibility to take an active role in promoting and perpetuating our square dance activity.

CALLERLAB is always striving to improve our activity. If you are a caller who "does things" rather than a person who "sits and watches" then we need you to get involved in CALLERLAB and its policy making decisions.

As callers, we are ambassadors for the square dance activity. Recruiting and teaching new dancers is the most important contribution we can make to the activity. Accepting this responsibility is vital to the success of the square dance activity.

CALLERLAB ist die internationale Vereinigung von Square Dance Callern. Wir sind da, um den Square Dance zu verbessern: zur Werbung, Förderung und Pflege des Square Dance. Als Organisation von Square Dance Callern ist es unsere Aufgabe, Ausbildung und Anleitung für die Übungsleiter unserer Aktivität bereitzustellen. CALLERLAB pflegt eine Liste empfohlener Tanzprogramme von Basic bis C-3A.

CALLERLAB ist eine Vereinigung von Übungsleitern der Square Dance Gemeinschaft, eine Gruppe von Ausbildern mit der Bestimmung, neue Tänzer anzuwerben und sie zu lehren, die Freuden des Square Dance zu schätzen. Als Caller haben wir die Verantwortung, eine aktive Rolle in der Förderung und Fortentwicklung unseres Square Dance zu übernehmen.

CALLERLAB ist immer bemüht, unsere Aktivität zu verbessern. Wenn Du ein Caller bist, der eher "die Dinge macht" als jemand, der "sitzt und zuguckt", dann brauchen wir Deine Beteiligung bei CALLERLAB und seinen richtungweisenden Entscheidungen.

Als Caller sind wir die Botschafter des Square Dance. Anwerbung und Unterrichtung neuer Tänzer ist der wichtigste Beitrag, den wir für unsere Aktivität leisten können. Die Übernahme dieser Verantwortung ist lebensnotwendig für den Erfolg des Square Dance.

The worlds largest Square Dance Organization -

The UNITED SQUARE DANCERS OF AMERICA, INC. (USDA) was formed on June 26, 1981, during the National Square Dance Convention held in Seattle, Washington, and has grown to the size that approaches the representation of 310,000 dancers throughout the United States. USDA is an organization formed by dancers, for dancers, and is under the operational control of dancers. The purpose of the organization is to:

• Promote and perpetuate the total Square Dance Movement which includes Square, Round, Contra, Clogging, Line and Heritage Dancing.
• Establish a line of communication from the individual dancer to a recognized unified body so that an expression of varied opinions can establish or influence policy for making decisions at the national level.
• Provide for education to further the growth and enjoyment of Square Dancing.
• Encourage cooperation between member clubs, state associations, councils, federations; national and international organizations; or other groups involved or interested in the promotion of Square Dancing.
• Provide a forum for implementing the benefits of membership in the UNITED SQUARE DANCERS OF AMERICA and assist members in any way possible.
• Represent Square Dancing to the general public as a wholesome, enjoyable family type recreation.

Die weltgrößte Square Dance Vereinigung -

Die USDA (United Square Dancers of America) wurde am 26. Juni 1981 während der National Square Dance Convention in Seattle gegründet und ist auf eine Größe von 310.000 Tänzern überall in den Vereinigten Staaten angewachsen. USDA ist eine Vereinigung, die von Tänzern für Tänzer gebildet wurde und unter der Leitung von Tänzern arbeitet. Der Zweck der Vereinigung ist:

• Förderung und Weiterentwicklung der gesamten Square Dance Bewegung, die Square Dance, Round Dance, Contra Dance, Clogging, Line Dance und Volkstanz umfasst.

• Die Bereitstellung von Ausbildung zum weiteren Wachstum und Vergnügen des Square Dance.
• Die Ermutigung zur Zusammenarbeit von Mitgliedsclubs, staatsweiten Vereinigungen, Beiräten, Verbänden, nationalen und internationalen Organisationen oder anderen Gruppen, die mit Square Dance zu tun haben oder Interesse an seiner Förderung haben.
• Die Bereitstellung eines Forums zur Nutzung der Vorteile einer Mitgliedschaft in der USDA und Unterstützung der Mitglieder auf jede mögliche Weise.
• Darstellung des Square Dance in der Öffentlichkeit als eine umfassende, Freude bringende Freizeitaktivität für die ganze Familie.

LEGACY is defined as "a leadership and communication resource center." It is a non-profit international assembly of "trustees" representing all facets of square dancing: dancers, callers, cuers, suppliers, publishers, special interest groups. The LEGACY idea was conceived in 1973 by three editors/publishers of nationally known magazines: Charlie Baldwin (The New England Caller), Stan Burdick (American Squaredance), Bob Osgood (Square Dancing/Sets in Order). They envisioned a service-leadership organization and development of better communications among the many facets of the square dance activity. Since its inception in 1973, LEGACY trustees have expressed concern over: rough dancing, non-descriptive calls, lack of standardization of calls, too many new movements, teaching programs, competition, use of alcohol, styling, dress code, ethics, recruitment/retention of dancers, social aspects of dancing.

LEGACY ist definiert als "ein Zentrum für Hilfsmittel zur Führung und Kommunikation". Es ist eine nichtkommerzielle internationale Gesellschaft von "Treuhändern", die alle Facetten des Square Dance repräsentieren: Tänzer, Caller, Cuer, Händler, Herausgeber von Zeitschriften und Gruppen mit speziellen Interessen. Die Idee zu LEGACY kam 1973 drei Editoren/Herausgebern von (US-)landesweit bekannten Zeitschriften: Charlie Baldwin (The New England Caller), Stan Burdick (American Squaredance), Bob Osgood (Square Dancing/Sets in Order). Sie stellten sich eine - in Hilfestellung führende - Vereinigung vor und eine Entwicklung besserer Verständigung zwischen den verschiedenen Aspekten des Square Dance. Seit der Einführung in 1973, haben sich die "Treuhänder" zuständig gefühlt für folgende Themen: ruppiges Tanzen, nicht definierte Calls, fehlende Vereinheitlichung von Calls, zu viele neue Figuren, Ausbildungsprogramme, Wettbewerbe, Genuss von Alkohol, Tanzstil, Kleiderordnung, Anstand, Anwerben und Bewahren von Tänzern, soziale Gesichtspunkte des Tanzens.

On January 20 and 21, 1999 representatives from eight national organizations met in Baltimore, Maryland to discuss issues related to the square dance activity. The unanimous consensus of the group was that there was a need for a national council to provide a unified voice to address issues related to the well-being and advancement of the activity. The Round Table Discussion Group hosted by United Square Dancers of America developed the following recommendations:

Am 20. und 21. Januar 1999 trafen sich die Vertreter von acht nationalen Vereinigungen in Baltimore, um Themen zu besprechen, die mit den Square Dance Aktivitäten zusammenhängen.
