If more than 2,600 dancers from all over Europe meet in Helsingborg; approx. 1,500 are foreign participants and the hosting Swedish clubs come in second with about 1,100 dancers; then, it should surely be spoken of an European event; and that was what the 2nd European Convention was supposed to be. Helsingborg boasted optimal weather conditions. One Round Dance hall and four Square Dance halls offered enough space for a dancing experience that was splendidly choreographed by 5 Cuers and 12 Callers from six European countries. Just like at Swedish conventions, the atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful. However, what was European besides the selection of European callers and participants? The guest club's joy about having so many non-Swedish participants was, the way we feel about it, rather subdued. The Swedish just like the other European umbrella associations of American Square Dance were not even presented. The European idea obviously got lost on its way from Hochheim (1st European Convention) to Helsingborg. Also Copenhagen's presentation as the place of the next event gave the impression that the Square Dance clubs and the towns wanted to give special emphasis to themselves rather than to the European nature of the Convention. What a pity. The initial appeal of the idea of a European Convention was not only determined by the large number of participants, a selection of European callers and alternating dance places but also by the assumption of having a reasonably-priced dancing pleasure for every dancer. This time the dancer's wallet was worn hard because of valet parking, an over-priced after party "menu" and expensive accommodation. Do we have to dance in the centre of (expensive) big cities? Hadn't Hochheim shown us that it can be done otherwise? Those who in future disregard the expenses of an event shouldn't be surprised if the required/requested number of participants stays away. Square Dancers are merry people whom one should not ask too much of. One should not speak ill, however, of an event that was, in principle, successful. We herewith would like to give a hearty thank you to the organisers and all the helpers enabling us to have a wonderful weekend. Wenn sich mehr als 2600 Square Dancer aus ganz Europa in Helsingborg treffen und etwa 1500 ausländische Teilnehmer den gastgebenden Schweden mit rund 1100 Tänzern nur den zweiten Rang lassen, dann muß sicherlich von einem europäischen Ereignis gesprochen werden; und das sollte die 2nd European Squaredance Convention ja auch sein. Die Stadt Helsingborg präsentierte sich bei optimalem Wetter. Eine Rounddance- und vier Squaredancehallen boten guten Platz für ein Tanzvergnügen, das von 5 Cuern und 12 Callern aus 6 europäischen Ländern ausgezeichnet choreographiert wurde. Die Atmosphäre war entspannt und heiter, wie auf schwedischen Conventions auch. Aber was war neben der europäischen Callerauswahl und der europäischen Teilnehmerschar europäisch? Die Freude des gastgebenden Clubs über so zahlreiche außerschwedische Teilnahme war unserem Empfinden nach recht gedämpft. Die schwedische wie die übrigen europäischen Dachorganisationen des amerikanischen Squaredances traten gar nicht in Erscheinung. Die europäische Idee ist anscheinend auf dem Weg von Hochheim (1st European Convention) nach Helsingborg verloren gegangen. Auch die Vorstellung des nächsten Veranstaltungsortes Kopenhagen erweckte nur den Eindruck, als wollten sich SD-Clubs und Städte selbst zelebrieren. Schade. Die Faszination der ursprünglichen Idee war nicht nur bestimmt von einem großen europäischen Teilnehmerkreis, einer europäischen Callerauswahl und wechselnden europäischen Tanzplätzen, sondern auch von der Vorstellung eines möglichst preiswerten Vergnügens für jeden Tänzer. Diesmal wurde der Geldbeutel der Teilnehmer durch gebührenpflichtiges Parken, überteuertes Afterparty-"Menu" und kostenträchtiges Übernachten arg strapaziert. Muß man denn unbedingt mitten in den (teuren) Großstädten tanzen? Hochheim hat doch gezeigt, dass es auch anders geht. Wer zukünftig nicht besser auf die Kostenseite der Veranstaltung achtet, darf sich nicht wundern, wenn die erforderliche/erwünschte Teilnehmerzahl ausbleibt. Squaredancer sind ein friedliches Völkchen, dem man aber doch nicht zuviel zumuten sollte. Nun soll aber eine generell gelungene Veranstaltung nicht schlecht geredet werden. Die Organisatoren und alle Helfer haben uns ein wunderschönes Wochenende ermöglicht, für das wir uns auf diesem Wege herzlich bedanken möchten. Auch die vielen Einzelbegegnungen außerhalb des Squaredances waren geprägt von großer Freundlichkeit und Hilfsbereitschaft. Résumé: Helsingborg und Squaredance waren wieder eine Reise wert. |

I would like to support Bettina and Peter Jansen's view. Being a longstanding engaged Round Dancer I want to comment in addition on this special theme: It has been obvious right from the very beginning that Round Dance would become a problem. On grounds that have to be searched in the past, in Sweden any co-operation between Square Dancers on the one and Round Dancers on the other side seems to be impossible. Only because of the other umbrella organisations' (particularly BAASDC and EAASDC) pressure the SAASDC (an explanation of these abbreviations is published elsewhere in this issue) at last was willing to ‘tolerate' a parallel Round Dance event within the same halls. I've consciously written ‘tolerate', because that was it: For the different Square Dance programmes there were four big, partially oversized halls, opulently decorated with flowers and plants. All those interested in Round Dance found a basement room, low and poorly ventilated. Not one piece of decoration had been placed at the Round Dancers' disposal. Thanks to the tremendous commitment of the people responsible for Round Dance - a special ‘thank you' to Birgitta and Ǻke Grahm - it was able to get ready a pleasant hall by using their own private material (plants, sunshades and a lot of funny pictures from many years of international Round Dance activities). I even heard people say that this hall was the nicest one. Definitely, we as foreign dancers got the feeling to be warmly welcome. Nevertheless, there is room for improvement yet. Both at the opening ceremony on Friday and at the pass-over ceremony on Saturday, nearly not one word about Round Dance could be heard. The cuers were not informed of the "callers room" where there was water and just a quiet place to sit and talk with the other leaders. They were not given any meal or drink tickets like the callers. Of course, the ‘actives' could afford that for their own; it is the lack of a friendly gesture by the organising club, which has to be criticised. At the reception held by the town of Helsingborg the invited callers found out that the cuers obviously had been ‘forgotten'. I can only hope that things will not turn out the same at the next European Convention in Denmark. In this case, I would say: ‘thanks, but no thanks' and many other Square- and Round-Dancers would do so too. Many thanks indeed to all Swedish Round Dancers and to the cuers Susie Rotscheid, Anthea van Santen, Hanne Stovring, and Ǻke Grahm, who in spite of everything have made the Round Dance Program an enrichment of the Convention. As Susie said so very kindly: ‘we are the pearls on the ground of the ocean'. Right, but pearls in a beautiful setting are even more precious! |
Den Ausführungen von Bettina und Peter Jansen kann ich mich nur anschließen. Als langjährige engagierte Round-Tänzerin möchte ich darüber hinaus noch einige Anmerkungen zu diesem besonderen Thema machen: Dass es mit dem Round Dance bei dieser Veranstaltung Probleme geben würde, war von Anfang an klar. Aus Gründen, die in der Vergangenheit zu suchen sind, ist in Schweden eine Zusammenarbeit zwischen Square-Tänzern auf der einen und Round-Tänzern auf der anderen Seite offenbar nicht möglich. Nur auf Druck der anderen Dachorganisationen (insbesondere der BAASDC und der EAASDC) war die SAASDC (Erklärung der Abkürzungen an anderer Stelle in diesem Heft) schließlich bereit, eine parallel laufende Round-Dance-Veranstaltung im selben Hallenbereich zu "dulden". Ich schreibe bewusst "dulden", denn mehr war es auch nicht: Für die verschiedenen Square-Dance-Programme standen vier große - zum Teil überdimensionierte, opulent mit Blumen und Grünpflanzen geschmückte Hallen zu Verfügung. Den Round-Dance-Interessierten wurde ein Kellerraum angeboten, der viel zu niedrig und überhaupt nicht zu belüften war. Nicht ein einziges Stückchen Dekoration stand zur Verfügung. Dank des großartigen Engagements der Round-Dance-Verantwortlichen - ein besonderes Dankeschön an Birgitta und Ǻke Grahm - war es gelungen, den Raum mit eigenen Mitteln (Pflanzen, Sonnenschirmen und vielen lustigen Fotografien aus etlichen Jahren internationaler Round-Dance-Aktivitäten) doch noch ansprechend herzurichten (ich habe sogar Stimmen gehört, die meinten, es sei die netteste Halle). Auf jeden Fall hatte man hier auch als ausländischer Tänzer das Gefühl, herzlich willkommen zu sein. Aber es ist alles noch steigerungsfähig. Sowohl bei der Eröffnungszeremonie am Freitag als auch bei der Übergabezeremonie am Samstag fiel kaum ein Wort über Round-Dance. Die Cuer wurden nicht darüber informiert, dass es einen "Callers room" mit Getränken und einem ruhigen Eckchen für ein Gespräch unter Kollegen gab. Sie bekamen im Gegensatz zu den Callern auch keine Gutscheine für Essen und Getränke. Es ist nicht so, dass sich die "Aktiven" das nicht leisten könnten, was hier vermisst wurde, ist eine freundliche Geste des veranstaltenden Clubs. Beim Empfang der Stadt Helsingborg stellten die geladenen Caller dann fest, dass man die Cuer wohl "vergessen" hatte. Ich kann nur hoffen, dass es bei der nächsten European Convention in Dänemark nicht ähnlich laufen wird, sonst werde ich und sicher auch etliche andere Square- und Round-Tänzer auf eine Teilnahme dankend verzichten. Mein herzlicher Dank gilt allen schwedischen Round-Tänzern und den Cuern Susie Rotscheid, Anthea van Santen, Hanne Stovring and Ǻke Grahm, die das Round-Dance-Programm allen Widrigkeiten zum Trotz zu einer Bereicherung der Convention gemacht haben. Wie sagte Susie Rotscheid so nett: "we are the pearls on the ground of the ocean" (wir sind die Perlen am Grunde des Ozeans). Richtig, aber Perlen in einer schönen Fassung sind noch kostbarer! |

On June 3rd, 2000, square dance history was made in Sweden. But let me back up a bit and give you a little background. The event was the European SD Convention, held June 2nd, 3rd and 4th. This is a convention that is organized once every two years by a different European SD/RD Organization. The upcoming organization puts on a little "show" at the convention preceding theirs. This gives them a chance to announce anything special and to attract more attention. When the Swedish organization made their announcements 2 years ago, there was no mention of round dancing at all. We know that the constitution of the Swedish SD Organization states that they will not allow round dancing at a square dance event, so we went to the club that was handling the program and asked them if there would be rounds, and they said that as far as they knew, "No." (As far as we know, the Swedish Organization is the only country-wide organization that has put a negative stipulation in their constitution discriminating against round dancing, which is a part of the square dance family, and actually forbidding round dancing at a square dance event.) Needless to say, this triggered a lot of emotions within the other European organizations, where a combined program is the norm for a major event. With encouragement from us, and lots of work from the Swedish cuers, especially Åke and Brigitte Grahm, and the Swedish RD Organization, and the full support of the other European organizations, RDing was finally approved for the program - BUT then to be organized by the Swedish Round Dance Organization instead of the hosting club, so it was to be like a separate special at the same location. The hall that was delegated to the round dancers was a hot, small hall in the basement, but we did get lots of people who came to watch and see what RDing is. (While we were there we talked to some Swedish dancers that had never even heard of RDing - and no wonder if it is not allowed at any SD event!!) Now, just how was history made that day? There was an hour of cuers from the floor, and we had the privilege of having a cuer from The States participating, Sylvester Nealon from Los Angeles, CA., who cued a tip for us. The atmosphere was great, and he was wonderful! In talking to Sylvester previously, we saw that he had on a CALLERLAB badge, so we knew that he was also a caller, and that he wouldn't mind calling a tip either. We asked the round dancers if they would like for him to call a square dance tip - we told them that they might not allow round dancing at a square dance, but that doesn't mean we can't have square dancing at a round dance! |
Am 3. Juni 2000 wurde in Schweden Square Dance Geschichte geschrieben. Aber lasst mich zunächst einmal ein wenig die Hintergründe erläutern. Die Veranstaltung war die European Square Dance Convention am 2., 3. und 4. Juni. Diese Convention wird alle zwei Jahre von verschiedenen europäischen Square und Round Dance Organisationen veranstaltet. Die jeweils nächste Organisation bringt während der vorangehenden Convention eine kleine "Show". Das gibt ihr Gelegenheit, etwas Besonderes anzukündigen und mehr Aufmerksamkeit auf sich zu lenken. Als die schwedische Organisation vor zwei Jahren ihre Ankündigung machte, wurde Round Dance überhaupt nicht erwähnt. Wir wissen, dass die Satzung der schwedischen Square Dance Organisation festlegt, dass kein Round Dance an einer Square Dance Veranstaltung erlaubt ist, daher gingen wir zum veranstaltenden Club und fragten, ob es Rounds geben werde. Sie sagten, soweit sie wüssten, "Nein". (Soweit wir wissen, ist die schwedische Organisation die einzige weltweit, die in ihrer Satzung eine Negativ-Bedingung zum Nachteil des Round Dance hat - der ein Bestandteil der Square Dance Familie ist - und tatsächlich Round Dance bei Square Dance Veranstaltungen verbietet.) Ich brauche nicht zu betonen, das dies große Erregung bei den anderen europäischen Organisationen hervorrief, bei denen ein kombiniertes Programm für alle Großveranstaltungen Vorschrift ist. Mit Ermutigung von unserer Seite, einer Menge Arbeit durch die schwedischen Cuer, besonders Åke and Brigitte Grahm, und die schwedische Round Dance Organisation sowie die volle Unterstützung durch die anderen europäischen Organisationen wurde Round Dance schließlich doch in das Programm aufgenommen - ABER organisiert durch die schwedische Round Dance Organisation, nicht durch den gastgebenden Club, so dass es wie ein eigener Special am gleichen Ort aussah. Die Halle, die den Round Dancern zugewiesen wurde, war ein heißer, enger Raum im Keller, aber es kam eine Menge Leute, um zuzusehen und zu sehen, was Round Dance ist. (Wir sprachen dort mit einigen schwedischen Tänzern, die noch nicht einmal von Round Dance gehört hatten - kein Wunder, wenn er bei keiner Square Dance Veranstaltung erlaubt ist!!) Nun, warum wurde an diesem Tag Geschichte gemacht? Es gab eine Stunde für "Cuers from the floor" und wir hatten die Ehre, einen Cuer aus den USA dabei zu haben: Sylvester Nealon aus Los Angeles, der einen Tip für uns cuete. Die Stimmung war großartig und er war wundervoll! Zuvor, während des Gesprächs mit Sylvester hatten wir sein CALLERLAB-Badge gesehen, daher wussten wir, dass er auch Caller war und gern auch einen Tip callen würde. Wir fragten die Round Dancer, ob er für sie einen Square Dance Tip callen solle - wir sagten ihnen, dass sie vielleicht keine Rounds beim Square Dance zulassen würden, dass das aber wohl nicht bedeute, dass wir keinen Square beim Round Dance haben dürften! |

The dancers were quite enthusiastic about that. Sylvestor called a really fun square dance tip. So, for the first time in Sweden, they had rounds and squares in the same hall at a special dance!! Swedish SD/RD history was made!! We hope that this will set an example to the Swedish SD Organization, and that maybe they will change their constitution. In two years this Convention will be sponsored by the Danish Organization, and we have already been assured that we will not encounter the same problems. |
Die Tänzer waren ziemlich begeistert davon und Sylvester callte einen wirklich schönen Square Dance Tip für sie. So hatte man zum ersten Mal in Schweden Rounds und Square in der selben Halle bei einem Special!! Schwedische SD/RD-Geschichte wurde gemacht!! Wir hoffen, dass dies für die schwedische Square Dance Organisation ein Beispiel setzt und dass sie vielleicht ihre Satzung ändert. In zwei Jahren wird diese Convention von der dänischen Organisation veranstaltet und wir haben uns schon vergewissert, dass dort nicht die gleichen Probleme zu erwarten sind. Übers.: Editor |

We just returned from Sweden and I'm still sorting our experiences in my mind. They are different. Twice we were taken by surprise with prices and it was not the pleasant. Sweden is very expensive country and Jamboree costs there three times more than the same event in Germany. On the other hand we were very pleased to find out that the most of the natural monuments such as menhir, natural parks, rune stones, the pictures at Tanumsede from the Bronze Age etc. were free. We were pleased that there was also the drinking water for free everywhere; even that the raft to an inland island where we wanted to sleep was free, too. We liked the way in which the parking places near the highways were made. The dancers, who we met, were great. We were sorry that we couldn't meet more of them as the most of the clubs in Sweden finished with the dancing activity in May and afterwards they danced only from time to time. Moreover, they wouldn't not organise anything during the weeks when the Convention took place as they count on the fact that they would dance there! Apparently, they are not used to the club visits. It was a hard work to find the active clubs. The only one, which we found was in Göteborg, where I had a great opportunity to dance and call with Bengt Geleff and Kirster Pettersson (they will come to Bratislava Non-Traditional Special Dance in 2001). That was perfect. There were two dancers from Japan in Sweden as their guests. Besides this club nowhere else, we could dance and therefore we moved for three days to Öland. This is the second largest Swedish island that is connected with Sweden by 6 km long bridge. There is Bödabaden Square Dance Center at the North of this island where the square dancing is danced 22 weeks a year (the rest of the time they run around the clubs and make the promotion). At the time when we came there one week course for about 80 seniors (nobody was younger than 60) was taking place. These people were perfect and very kind. Despite the fact that the dancing was very easy. For me as a guest caller who had one tip every evening it was a very interesting experience. It was like a calling in the USA, to control the standard positions, to talk as little as possible, to articulate VERY CLEAR! Good for me. I was succesful. Anders Blom and Roland Danielsson, who were there a the program callers appreciated my calling and showed the interest in the singing call "Rasputin" from ABC Records. It was good. Several lines about Bödabaden Square Dancer Center. It has been working for 16 years. The owners are Håkan and Inger, husband and wife. You can live there as you like - in the apartment, caravan or in the tent. There is a restaurant, tourist center, bar, a swimming pool, video room, dancing hall, wooden floor for the dancing outside and trampoline. Several thousand of the dancers visited this place during its existence together with many well-known callers. An interesting story we heard there: There is a farm with camels, not very far from there. Once when Kenny Reese called there, he noticed this farm and he wanted to call from the camel. Allegedly he really did it, riding the camel around the dancing floor and calling. Well, last year when they celebrated 15th anniversary Robert Björg played Clinton (Håkan was Monika Lewinski). Robert also danced kankan and slipped, Kenny Reese were Turkish (we could see all these thing on the video, many excellent ideas). Well, to summarise it I think that organisation of such place requires the professional attitude. Håkan and Inger do this for living and their Center was the first of this kind in the Europe. They even have square dance postcards and their Square Dance Center is in the promotional materials about Öland. "Dear tourists, you may dance square dancing at Öland!" Interesting! And that's everything. Are you surprised that I didn't write about the Convention? That's because I didn't bring any opinion from there. I do not know. Kill me! I know, I was there but I feel nothing. It was quite a good idea to do the dancing, divided in the blocks, called by the different caller when the first tip is called by two callers; one of them has just finished tip and the another one has just started. It was also good that mostly all day was filled with one level (without round). Round was in the small cellar hall (I can't describe that in another way). There was very strange atmosphere. It was like a club for English gentlemen from last century. Strange! I do not know whether I liked the Convention or not. There was 2640 dancers (more foreign visitors than Swedish), including 8 from Czech and Slovakia. Jirka Rogalewicz tried his best at the stage. I liked the way how Paul Bristow finished the Saturday evening dancing at 21 o'clock ("dear ladies and gentlemen, this dance was finished" he said in the voice like the priest from the stage). The European Convention 2002 will be in the Danish Kobenhaven. It will be organised by Danish Club Association. I do not know whether I will like it or not, but I will go there. Wir sind grade aus Schweden zurückgekommen und ich bin immer noch dabei, meine Eindrücke zu sortieren. Sie sind unterschiedlich. Zweimal sind wir von den Preisen überrascht worden und zwar nicht auf erfreuliche Weise. Schweden ist ein sehr teures Land und die Kosten für ein Jamboree sind dreimal höher als für eine solche Veranstaltung in Deutschland. Auf der anderen Seite haben wir mit Freude festgestellt, dass die meisten Naturdenkmäler wie die Menhire, Naturparks, Runensteine, die Bilder von Tanumsede aus der Bronzezeit usw. gratis zu besichtigen waren. Es hat uns auch gefreut, dass es überall kostenlos Trinkwasser gab und dass auch die Fahrt zu einer Insel, wo wir schlafen wollten, frei war. Wir mochten auch die Gestaltung der Parkplätze an den Autobahnen. Die Tänzer, die wir trafen, waren großartig. Es tat uns leid, dass wir nicht mehr treffen konnten, da die meisten Clubs in Schweden das Tanzen im Mai einstellen und danach nur hin und wieder tanzen. Außerdem wollten sie nichts während der Convention-Wochen organisieren, weil sie ja dort tanzen würden! Offensichtlich sind sie an Besuche anderer Clubs nicht gewöhnt. Es war sehr schwierig, aktive Clubs zu ermitteln. Der einzige, den fanden, war in Göteborg, wo wir eine tolle Gelegenheit zum Tanzen und Callen mit Bengt Geleff und Kirster Pettersson fanden (sie werden zum "Bratislava Non-Traditional Special" im Jahr 2001 kommen). Das hat hervorragend geklappt. Es waren zwei Tänzer aus Japan bei ihnen zu Gast. Außer in diesem Club konnten wir nirgendwo tanzen und gingen daher für drei Tage nach Öland. Das ist die zweitgrößte schwedische Insel, die mit dem Festland durch eine 6 km lange Brücke verbunden ist. Dort ist im Norden der Insel das Bödabaden Square Dance Center, wo an 22 Wochen im Jahr Square Dance stattfindet (im Rest des Jahres besuchen sie die Clubs und machen Werbung). Zu der Zeit, als wir kamen, fand ein einwöchiger Kurs für etwa 80 Senioren statt (keiner war jünger als 60). Die Leute tanzten gut und waren sehr freundlich, das Tanzen war allerdings sehr unkompliziert. Für mich als Gastcaller, der jeden Abend einen Tip hatte, war das eine sehr interessante Erfahrung. Es war wie Callen in den USA: die Standardpositionen einzuhalten, so wenig wie möglich zu sprechen, sehr sehr deutlich zu artikulieren! Das tat mir gut, ich hatte Erfolg. Anders Blom und Roland Danielsson, die dort auf dem Programm standen, mochten mein Callen und zeigten Interesse an unserem Singing Call "Rasputin" von den ABC-Records. Es war schön. Noch einige Worte zum Bödabaden Square Dancer Center. Es ist seit 16 Jahren in Betrieb. Eigentümer sind Håkan und Inger, ein Ehepaar. Man kann je nach Belieben im Apartment, Wohnwagen oder Zelt wohnen. Es gibt Restaurant, Touristen-Zentrum, Bar, Schwimmbad, Fernsehraum, Tanzhalle, Holzboden für das Tanzen im Freien und ein Trampolin. Einige Tausend Tänzer und viele weit bekannte Caller haben diesen Ort seit seinem Entstehen besucht. Eine interessante Geschichte kam uns zu Ohren: Es gibt nicht weit entfernt eine Kamelfarm. Als Kenny Reese einmal dort callte, bemerkte er diese Farm und wollte von einem Kamel aus callen. Angeblich ist er wirklich auf einem Kamel um die Tanzfläche geritten und hat gecallt. Letztes Jahr, als das 15. Jubiläum gefeiert wurde, spielte Robert Björg "Clinton" (Håkan war Monika Lewinski). Robert tanzte auch Cancan und rutschte aus, Kenny Reese war als Türke verkleidet (wir konnten all das auf einem Video sehen, viele ausgezeichnete Ideen). Nun, um es zusammenzufassen, ich glaube, die Organisation eines solchen Platzes erfordert eine professionelle Einstellung. Håkan und Inger betreiben das hauptberuflich und ihr Zentrum war das erste dieser Art in Europa. Seid Ihr überrascht, dass ich nichts über die Convention schrieb? Das hat seinen Grund darin, dass ich keine Meinung dazu von dort mitgebracht habe. Ich weiß nichts, auch wenn Ihr mich umbringt! Ich weiß, ich war da, aber ich verspüre nichts. Es war eine ziemlich gute Idee, das Tanzen, in Blöcke aufgeteilt, von verschiedenen Callern zu callen, wobei der erste Tip von zwei Callern gemacht wurde: dem, der grade fertig war und dem, der grade anfing. Es war auch gut, dass fast der ganze Tag von einem Programm ausgefüllt wurde (ohne Rounds). Round Dance fand in einem kleinen Kellerraum statt (ich kann es nicht anders beschreiben). Die Atmosphäre dort war sehr fremdartig. Es war wie ein Club für englische Gentlemen aus dem letzten Jahrhundert. Seltsam! Ich weiß nicht, ob mir die Convention gefallen hat oder nicht. Es waren 2640 Tänzer da (mehr aus dem Ausland als Schweden), einschließlich 8 aus Tschechien und der Slowakei. Jirka Rogalewicz gab sein Bestes auf der Bühne. Mir gefiel die Art, wie Paul Bristow den Tanz am Samstagabend um 21.00 Uhr beendete ("Liebe Damen und Herren, dieser Tanz ist zu Ende" sagte er mit einer Stimme wie ein Priester von der Bühne). Die European Convention 2002 wird in Dänemark, in Kopenhagen stattfinden. Sie wird von der dänischen Cluborganisation veranstaltet. Ich weiß nicht, ob sie mir gefallen wird, aber ich werde hinfahren.
