Consideration / Rücksicht

During the first weekend in March 2002 I visited the Special Dance of the Witch Hunters in Menden, also known as the Elliotdance.

First of all, I have to give big praise to the hosting club. The dance was organised really good. One offered something for all dancers: Basic, Mainstream, Plus and Round. The workshop offered things to learn und during Hot Hash one could really let off steam. The room was always packed and Stephan Förster and Thorsten Geppert really made it hot for us. During Round Dance, Susie and Gert-Jan Rotscheid fulfilled every wish. At the end of the day all dancers had obviously enjoyed it, took some refreshment from the excellent buffet and ended the day with an afterparty. Those who still hadn't had enough could start Sunday morning at 10.00 hrs with dancing Plus.

With regard to the dance programme and the food, I really can recommend this Special to everybody.

Yet thinking about the Elloitdance, a bitter after taste remained. As mentioned before, the programme offered 2 Squares ./1 Round Dance tips in turn. Due to the fact that there are mostly more Square Dancers than Round Dancers and in order to please everybody, I consider this a good solution.

I, too, do Round Dancing and you could always find me on the dance floor when Susie started to cue. Unfortunately, because of the noise level I was not able to dance everything without problems since I could not hear each command. In spite of several requests by the Cuer and also by the club members, the other dancers kept talking vociferously. Also the dancers who do not dance Round Dance should know that it is important for Round Dancers just like for Square Dancers to properly understand the figures in order to perform them accordingly. It is annoying to the dancers if they have to repeatedly interrupt the dance part because they had not understood it acoustically.

In addition, already during the Round Dance tip many Square Dancers stood in front of the stage to get a spot in the front squares. The room capacity for the Round Dancers was reduced enormously and facing the amount of dancers, one had to be lucky not to step into one another. Above all, one had to pay attention not to ram a "Non Round Dancer" who thought he just had to cross the circle. I really understand that one wishes to dance in the front squares because one can listen to the caller best. However, why can't people wait until the preceding tip has ended? Such actions really spoil the fun for Round Dancers and I really would have expected more consideration.

One should allow other dancers the same fun one wants to have for him-/herself.

Therefore:

A little more consideration, please!

Am ersten Märzwochenende diesen Jahres besuchte ich das Special der Witch Hunters in Menden, bekannt auch als Elliotdance.

Zunächst einmal muss ich dem ausrichtenden Club ein großes Lob aussprechen. Die Veranstaltung war wirklich gut organisiert. Es wurde für alle Tänzer etwas geboten: Basic, Mainstream, Plus und Round. Es gab im Workshop etwas zu lernen und beim Hot Hash konnte man sich so richtig austoben. Der Saal war stets brechend voll und Stephan Förster und Thorsten Geppert heizten die Stimmung so richtig an. Beim Round Dance ließen Susie & Gert-Jan Rotscheid keine Wünsche offen. Am Ende des Tages waren wohl alle Tänzer auf ihre Kosten gekommen und konnten sich am hervorragenden Büfett stärken und den Samstag auf der Afterparty ausklingen lassen. Wer nun immer noch nicht genug hatte, fand sich am Sonntag schon um 10.00 Uhr morgens zum Plus wieder ein.

Was das Tanzangebot und die Verpflegung angeht, kann ich dieses Special also nur jedem Tänzer empfehlen.

Dennoch ist, wenn ich an den Elliotdance denke, ein bitterer Nachgeschmack geblieben. Wie bereits gesagt, wurde hier immer im Wechsel (2 Square- /1 Roundtip) Round und Square geboten. Das halte ich für eine gute Lösung, um allen gerecht zu werden, da es meist weniger Roundtänzer als Squaredancer gibt.

Ich selbst tanze auch Round und fand mich zu den Tips von Susie stets auf der Tanzfläche ein. Leider konnte ich nicht alles ohne Probleme mittanzen, da aufgrund der Geräuschkulisse nicht immer jedes Kommando zu hören war. Trotz wiederholter Hinweise durch Cuerin und Clubangehörige führten die umstehenden Tänzer lautstark  ihre Gespräche weiter. Auch die Tänzer, die selbst kein Round tanzen, sollten wissen, dass es beim Rounddance ebenso wie beim Squaredance wichtig ist, alle angesagten Figuren richtig zu verstehen, um sie entsprechend umzusetzen. Es ist ärgerlich für die Tänzer, wenn sie ein Stück ständig unterbrechen müssen, weil sie etwas akustisch nicht verstanden haben.

Außerdem stellten sich viele Squaredancer schon während des Roundtips vor der Bühne auf, um anschließend, wenn möglich, einen Platz in einem der vorderen Squares zu bekommen. Die Tanzfläche der Rounddancer verkleinerte sich dadurch enorm und bei der Vielzahl an Tanzpaaren, ist es dann eine Kunst, sich nicht gegenseitig auf die Füße zu treten. Zumal man hin und wieder auch noch aufpassen musste, nicht einen "Nichtrounddancer" zu rammen, der meinte, er müsse mal eben mitten durch die Kreisbahn laufen. Bei allem Verständnis dafür, dass man möglichst weit vorn tanzen möchte, da man dort den Caller am besten hören kann, sollte man doch zumindest abwarten bis der vorhergehende Tip zu Ende ist. Solche Aktionen verderben uns Rounddancern den Tanzspaß gehörig und ich hätte eigentlich ein wenig mehr gegenseitige Rücksichtnahme erwartet.

Ebenso wie jeder Teilnehmer eines solchen Specials selbst seinen Spaß haben möchte, sollte er auch jedem anderen seinen Spaß gönnen und ermöglichen.
