Since I am a newcomer to the Internet, I am still curious, and look around for sites referring to square dance. You can find a lot, thank you, with much interesting information. But there are some things I don't like so much. You probably cannot avoid fluttering promotion banners on your way through the internet (although I cannot understand how somebody expects promotion from making a nuisance of himself). But that quite a few homepages are "decorated" with wiggling thingamajigs that detract from reading the information, is not to my taste. And if there is music doodling too, then I quote from Polykrates' Ring: "The guest turns back in horror", I  look for another address, and mark this one mentally as off limits (to my taste).

Postscript: Meanwhile I have installed Zone­Alarm­Pro. This takes the wind out of the fluttering banners, and freezes the wiggling things.

Da ich neu im Internet bin, bin ich noch neugierig und suche nach Seiten, die Square Dance betreffen. Es gibt eine Menge, vielen Dank, mit interessanten Informationen. Aber einiges mag ich weniger. Wenn man im Internet surft, kann man wohl die flatternden Werbebanner nicht vermeiden (obwohl ich nicht verstehe, wie sich jemand Werbung davon erhofft, dass er anderen Leuten lästig fällt). Aber dass viele Homepages mit zappelnden Zutaten "verziert" sind, die beim Lesen stören, ist weniger nach meinem Geschmack. Und wenn gar noch Musik dudelt, dann zitiere ich aus dem Ring des Polykrates: "Da wendet sich der Gast mit Grausen", suche eine andere Adresse, und merke mir die vorige als "off limits" (jenseits der Grenzen meines Geschmacks).

Nachtrag: Ich habe inzwischen ZoneAlarmPro installiert. Das nimmt den Wind aus den flatternden Werbebannern und stellt die Zappelphilippe ruhig.

Though these promotion banners are annoying, you get nothing from nothing. What I mean is, the people who make web space available (with all hard and software and the accompanying maintenance), or those who provide domain administration and registration, also want to make a living.

Therefore somebody has to pay (the clubs, the homepage administrator etc.), or some other way has to be found to bring in the money, hence the advertisements.

Diese Werbebanner sind zwar lästig, aber von nichts kommt nichts. Soll heissen, die Leute, die da den Webspace zur Verfügung stellen (mit all der Hard- und Software und der Wartung derselben), oder die die Verwaltung und Anmeldung von Domainnamen erledigen, wollen auch leben.

Also muss entweder jemand (die Clubs, die Homepagebetreiber u.s.w.) das bezahlen, oder aber es werden andere Wege, also Werbung, gefunden, die das Geld bringen.

Promotion banners are really annoying and download-time-consuming enough. Whoever uses such a server or due to cost restraints has to, should avoid elaborate optical and acoustic effects when designing their homepage. Otherwise in frustration the visitor will press the "cancel" button long before the page with all its "decoration" has fully downloaded. Presumably the fortunate users of a fast connection (DSL) will mainly be the ones tempted to overload a site this way.

A good piece of advice to all club webmasters:  look at your own site via a "normal" modem connection. If necessary, you may have to clean up or slim down your site. If you would like to make music or a lot of pictures available, do this via links or respective sub-pages.

Die Werbebanner sind schon lästig und (download-)zeitraubend genug. Wer einen solchen Server benutzt oder aus Kostengründen benutzen muss, sollte bei der Gestaltung seiner Homepage sehr sparsam mit optischen und akustischen Effekten umgehen. Sonst drücken die Besucher seiner Website vor lauter Frust den "Stop"-Knopf schon, bevor noch die Seite mit all ihrer "Schönheit" aufgebaut ist. Vermutlich werden vor allem die glücklichen Besitzer eines schnellen Anschlusses (DSL) leicht zu solchem Überladen der Seiten verleitet.

Ein guter Rat an alle Club-Webmaster: Schaut euch eure eigenen Seiten mal über eine "normale" Modemverbindung an. Notfalls hilft nur ein Aufräumen oder Abspecken der Seite. Wer gern Musik und viele Bilder anbieten möchte, kann ja über einen Link auf entsprechende Unterseiten weiterleiten.
