Hello Hansjörg,

We finished our headlong plunge through Europe by the end of March. We had been 3 months in Paris, the rest on the road. We travelled through Belgium, Germany, Austria, France, the U.K. before returning to the US. Since we have  been back in California, we have immersed ourselves in square dancing, attending the Golden State Roundup at the end of May, and more recently, the 52^nd  NSDC in Oklahoma City.

Several months ago, we wrote to you and asked how we could get the email addresses of the EAASDC clubs with email.  You said that you did not think it  was a good idea to release all of the email addresses and said that you could easily send an email to every club on our behalf. Here it is:

Hello Squaredancers!

We are Jim and Betsy writing to you. You may recognize our names, as we have had several articles published in the EAASDC Bulletin, including two stories about our adventures dancing in China. We have been able to be helpful to a number of square dancers since who wanted to visit the square dance clubs in China.

Since we came back from China, we have been working hard to help promote the 54^th U.S. National Square Dance Convention. It will take place in Portland, Oregon on June 22, 23, 24, and 25 2005. Yes, that is right, TWO THOUSAND FIVE! In order to do this, we have been traveling through Europe since October 15, 2002. We have visited many square dance clubs in France, Germany, Belgium, and Austria. It has been a wonderful experience and we have enjoyed it greatly.

Unfortunately, we are unable to visit each and every club in Europe. There are over 600 clubs listed in the EAASDC Directory! How we wish we could visit each club and give you a personal invitation to join with us in Portland. We hope to have the largest number of dancers from outside the USA ever. We hope you will come help us achieve this goal!

Here is a bit of information about the Convention for you.

• It will be held in the Portland Oregon Convention Center.
• We will have hundreds of rooms and thousands of square meters of dancing space.
• We expect over 300 vendors with square dance merchandise.
• There will be an "International Hospitality Center."
• Every type of dance will have a place: Basic, Mainstream, Plus, A-1, A-2, Challenge, all levels of Rounds, Clogging, contra, country western, and more.
• There will be a LIVE BAND! The Ghost Riders Square Dance Band will play for us daily.
• Wednesday night there will be a Special show.
• There will be an outstanding educational program.
• Many exhibition groups will perform.
• Sight-seeing tours of all sorts will be offered.

The last U.S. National Convention that was held in Portland (1994) attracted more dancers than any convention in recent years-Over 21,000 dancers were there.

Bis Ende März haben wir uns quer durch Europa gewühlt. Wir waren drei Monate in Paris, die übrige Zeit unterwegs. Wir sind durch Belgien gereist, durch Deutschland, Österreich, Frankreich und England und schließlich in die USA zurückgekehrt. Seit wir zurück in Kalifornien sind, haben wir uns wieder in den Square Dance gestürzt, haben am Golden State Round-Up Ende Mai teilgenommen und kürzlich an der
52. National Square Dance Convention in Okla­homa City.

Vor einigen Monaten hatten wir Dir geschrieben und Dich um die email-Adressen der EAASDC-Clubs gebeten. Du hattest geantwortet, dass Du die Adressen ungern verteilen würdest und angeboten, unsere mail selbst zu verteilen.

Hallo Squaredancer!

Hier schreiben euch Jim und Betsy. Ihr erinnert euch vielleicht noch an unsere Namen, da wir verschiedene Artikel im Bulletin veröffentlicht haben, darunter zwei Berichte über unsere Erlebnisse beim Tanzen in
China. Wir konnten auch einer Reihe von Square Dancern behilflich sein, die Clubs in China besuchen wollten.

Seit wir aus China zurück sind, haben wir hart daran gearbeitet, für die 54. U.S. National Convention zu werben. Sie wird vom
22. bis 25. Juni 2005 in Portland, Oregon stattfinden. Ja, ihr habt richtig gelesen: ZWEITAUSENDFÜNF! In diesem Zusammenhang sind wir seit dem 15. Oktober 2002 durch Europa gereist. Wir haben viele Clubs in Frankreich, Deutschland, Belgien und Österreich besucht. Es war ein wundervolles Erlebnis und wir hatten mächtig Spaß dabei.

Unglücklicherweise konnten wir nicht jeden einzelnen Club in Europa besuchen. Es gibt ja über 600 Clubs im EAASDC Directory! Wir hätten sehr gern jeden Club besucht und euch persönlich zu einem Treffen in Portland eingeladen. Wir hoffen, dort die größte Anzahl Tänzer zu haben, die jemals von außerhalb der USA gekommen ist. Hoffentlich werdet ihr kommen und uns helfen, dieses Ziel zu erreichen!

Hier einige Informationen über die Convention:

• Sie findet im Portland Oregon Convention Center statt.
• Wir werden hunderte Räume und tausende Quadradmeter Tanzfläche haben.
• Wir erwarten über 300 Verkäufer von Square Dance Artikeln.
• Es wird ein Zentrum für internationale Gastfreundschaft geben.
• Es wird Raum für alle Tanzarten und -programme geben: Basic, Mainstream, Plus, A-1, A-2, Challenge, alle Round-Phasen, Clogging, Contra, Country Western und andere.

• Am Mittwoch wird eine Special Show stattfinden.
• Es wird ein hervorragendes Lehrprogramm geben.
• Viele Demo-Gruppen werden auftreten.
• Alle Arten Ausflugsprogramme werden angeboten werden.

Die letzte U.S. National Convention, die in Portland stattfand (1994), zog mehr Tänzer an als jede andere in der Vergangenheit - es waren mehr als 21.000 Tänzer anwesend.
