In the March issue of the Bulletin our webmaster announced that all e-mail and Homepage addresses will no longer be available in the printed directory. We asked for your opinion. But nobody gave us an answer.

After the printed directory for May was published, we received less than 10 enquiries about the missing information. Only three readers pointed out that this is very important and should continue to appear. One reader told us that he wanted to cancel his Bulletin subscription at once. We replied to everyone personally, but received no further message.

The missing E-mail and WWW-addresses are not a "thoughtless slip-up". On the contrary: in the past there were very often complaints about the data not being up to date. That was the reason why we thought about the sense in publishing them.

The basic idea is: if you write an e-mail, then in order to send it out, you have to go on the internet and can check the data there. Under www.eaasdc.eu you only need to put in a few letters and you have found the right Club with the e-mail and homepage address. Now you can either copy the address into your mail program or with just one click you can start the mail program, copy your (prepared) text into it and send it out. This entire action takes just one minute (= one Internet unit) and is much quicker than looking up the address in the printed directory. The benefit is that you don't have any mail failure due to typing mistakes or to addresses which are not up to date. For frequent correspondence an entry in your own address book is helpful, which is no less up to date than the addresses in the printed directory. Messages about new data will be included as soon as I receive them. The time lag from the Bulletin deadline until the publication of the next printed directory is nearly 4 months, whereas the data on the internet is updated approximately every week.

We regret a subscription cancellation and are very pleased about every new subscription, particularly as a "reader" - as a "payer" he is (in a purely economic sense) not so important: the subscription payment just about covers to within a few cents the printing and shipping costs. Therefore we are always trying to save money without leaving out any important information. It is also not the right time to be increasing the subscription payment. However, saving six printed pages makes a significant difference.

It was never possible to please everybody. There was a group who wanted the directory sorted in Zip code order, others wanted it sorted according to dancing days, others again in alphabetical order.  Also people asked if we would print the Zip Code map every time. It is not economically possible to satisfy every wish. In order to please readers who like to have the Zip code map, we will put this on the internet for downloading.

When I started working for the Bulletin in September 1994 we printed 42 pages in bigger letters than today for approx. 450 clubs. With the same style as in 1994 we would have today more than 90 pages. At present we have approx. 550 clubs listed, and there are constantly new clubs or second club entries being added. As a result we have more than 50 pages to print out.

For a better overall view this time the printed directory will have a completely new look. In the first part you will find all the clubs in alphabetical order. Instead of the dance day there is now the area listed. In the second part the clubs are listed by country, area and alphabetical order. Particularly for travellers it might be helpful to see at a glance how many clubs there are in the area they will be visiting. Please let me know what you think about this layout.

In the past few years there have been so many changes: the number of clubs, the look of the printed directory as well as the internet becoming more widespread. The new appearance is designed to make it as easy as possible for everybody to find the club they searching for out of the enormous amount of data.

I am always grateful for constructive criticism, but please without any threat of cancelling the subscription.

Now also some points about cancellation: Please do not ask for a letter of confirmation if you cancel your subscription for any reason. If you ask for this by
e-mail, I will be happy to give you an
answer. Otherwise the rule is: those who do not pay, do not receive a Bulletin any more. Only those who pay by standing order have to send me a cancellation, because every reinbursement costs about 12 Euros in bank charges.

In der Märzausgabe des Bulletins hatten wir im Webmaster-Artikel angekündigt, dass die e-mail- und Homepage-Adressen im gedruckten Directory künftig entfallen und um eure Meinung dazu gebeten. Es kam leider keine Antwort.

Als das Mai-Papierdirectory erschien, bekamen wir noch nicht einmal 10 Anfragen wegen der nun fehlenden Angaben. Nur drei Leser legten großen Wert auf den weiteren Abdruck, einer wollte deswegen sogar sofort das Bulletin kündigen. Wir haben jedem persönlich geantwortet, aber keine Rückmeldung mehr erhalten.

Die jetzt fehlenden E-mail- und WWW-Adressen sind kein "unüberlegter Ausrutscher", im Gegenteil: es gab in der Vergangenheit häufig Klagen wegen der Inaktualität dieser Daten. Das war für uns der Anlass, über den Sinn ihrer Veröffentlichung  nachzudenken.

Grundidee ist: wer eine mail schreibt, muss spätestens zum Abschicken ins Internet und kann dann dort die aktuellen Daten abfragen: Nach Aufruf von www.eaasdc.eu reicht eine Handvoll Buchstaben des Clubnamens und ein Mausklick um E-mail- und Homepage-Adresse des Clubs zu sehen. Nun kann man entweder diese in das Mailprogramm kopieren oder durch Klick darauf das Mailprogramm starten und (vorbereiteten) Text dort hineinkopieren - senden klicken und fertig. Die ganze Aktion dauert nicht länger als eine Minute (= eine Internet-Einheit) und ist schneller als die Adresse zuvor aus dem Directory abzuschreiben. Vorteil: es gibt keine Rückläufer wegen falsch abgeschriebener oder nicht mehr aktueller Adressen. Für häufige Korrespondenz empfiehlt sich auch ein Eintrag in das eigene Adressbuch, das ist dann auch nicht inaktueller als die E-mail-Adressen eines gedruckten Directory. Diese werden übrigens sofort nach Eingang einer Meldung durch den Club bearbeitet. Der Zeitraum von Redaktionsschluss des letzten bis zum Erscheinen des nächsten Directory beträgt aber immerhin fast 4 Monate, die Daten im Internet werden etwa wöchentlich aktualisiert.

Wir bedauern eine Kündigung und freuen uns über jeden Abonnenten, allerdings vor allem als "Leser" - als "Zahler" ist er (rein ökonomisch betrachtet) weniger wichtig: der Abo-Betrag deckt bis auf sehr wenige Cents grade die Druck- und Versandkosten eines Heftes. Deshalb bemühen wir uns auch um Einsparmöglichkeiten, ohne bei wesentlichen Inhalten Einschnitte machen zu müssen. Für Preisanhebungen ist wohl nicht die rechte Zeit. Die Einsparung von sechs gedruckten Seiten ist ein wesentlicher Kostenfaktor.

Es war schon immer unmöglich, es allen Lesern recht zu machen. So gab es Gruppen, die im Directory eine Sortierung nach PLZ, andere, die eine Sortierung nach Tanztag und wieder andere, die die Alpha-Sortierung wollten. Auch ob die PLZ-Karte jedes mal wieder abgedruckt werden muss, war Thema. Alle Wünsche gleichzeitig zu erfüllen, ist leider wirtschaftlich nicht vertretbar. Für Leser die, Wert auf die PLZ Karte legen, werden wir diese zum Download ins Internet stellen.

Als ich im September 1994 anfing, die Arbeit für das BULLETIN zu übernehmen, war das Directory (bei größerer Schrift als heute) 42 Seiten stark und enthielt etwa 450 Clubs. Dadurch erhöhte sich die Seitenanzahl des Directory auf über 50 Seiten.

Um die Übersichtlichkeit zu erhöhen, wird das Papierdirectory diesmal insgesamt ein anderes Aussehen haben. Im ersten Teil sind alle Clubs in alphabetischer Folge gelistet. Anstelle des Tanztages steht dort jetzt das Bundesland. Im zweiten Teil sind die Clubs nach Land bzw. Bundesland und A-Z sortiert. Gerade für Reisende ist es vielleicht gut, sofort sehen zu können, in wieviel Clubs man in der der Umgebung tanzen kann. Bitte lasst mich wissen, wie ihr diesen Aufbau findet.

In den letzten Jahren hat sich viel geändert: die Anzahl der Clubs, das Aussehen des Directory und die Verbreitung des Internet. Ich versuche es mit der neuen Darstellung jedem so leicht wie möglich zu machen, aus der Riesenauswahl der Clubs den zu finden, den er sucht.
