In 2003 we asked the dancers for their opin-

ion. The statistical evaluation on the topic

of Jamborees has already been presented at

the Spring Jamboree 2004 in Dachau (avail-

able on the EAASDC homepage). The

evaluation of the comments on the ques-

tionnaires has naturally taken longer. Here

is a second selection of comments:

At Jamborees the exchange of infor-

mation and organising things like fly-

ers and meetings are important.

-

I don't like to go to Jamborees. It's all

to big and impersonal for me. I prefer

to dance in a little group because I

believe there the contact to other

people is better.

-

Central site of Jamborees is impor-

tant.

-

Jamborees and other big events not

only in the south of Germany.

-

Less specials and no greater ones

parallel such as IPAC, GSI and Clog-

ging-Convention (even if they are far

apart).

-

Better arrangement of dates (e.g.

IPAC and GSI).

-

Better planning: Not GSI and IPAC

together.

-

Why are IPAC/GSI/Renningen all

on the same weekend?

-

Important at Jamborees: cheap ac-

commodation.

-

Important is access by public trans-

port, for the journey home too.

-

In route descriptions dancers who are

dependent on public transport should

be considered.

-

Return to reality with special events!

Nobody has unlimited money and

time. Regard to costs is lacking!

-

Im Jahr 2003 haben wir eine Tänzer-befragung

durchgeführt. Die statistische Auswertung zum

Thema Jamborees wurde bereits beim Spring

Jamboree 2004 in Dachau präsentiert (nachzu-

lesen auf der EAASDC Homepage). Die Aus-

wertung der Kommentare auf den Fragebögen

hat naturgemäß etwas länger gedauert. Hier

eine zweite Auswahl von Anmerkungen:

Bei Jamborees sind auch Informations-

austausch und Organisatorisches wie Fly-

er und Meetings wichtig.

-

Ich gehe sehr ungern auf Jamborees. Mir

ist das alles zu groß und zu unpersönlich.

Ich mag lieber das Tanzen im kleinen

Kreis, weil ich denke, dass dort der Kon-

takt zu anderen Leuten einfach besser ist.

-

Zentrale Lage der Jamborees ist wichtig.

-

Jamborees und andere Großveranstal-

tungen nicht nur im Süden von Deutsch-

land.

-

Weniger Veranstaltungen und keine grö-

ßeren parallel wie IPAC, GSI und Clogg-

Convention (auch bei großen Entfernun-

gen).

-

bessere Terminabsprachen (z.B. IPAC

und GSI).

-

Bessere Planung: GSI iPAC nicht zu-

sammen.

-

Warum müssen IPAC/GSI/Renningen

am selben Wochenende sein?

-

Wichtig bei Jamborees: kostengünstige

Unterkunft.

-

Wichtig ist die Erreichbarkeit mit öffent-

lichen Verkehrsmitteln, auch zurück.

-

Bei den Wegbeschreibungen sollten

Tänzer berücksichtigt werden, die auf

öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel angewiesen

sind.

-

Kommt mit den Veranstaltungen auf den

Teppich zurück! Niemand hat unbe-

grenzt Geld und Zeit. Die Kostenfrage

place for motor homes.

Differentiation of entry fees if only

parts of a program that runs over

several days can be visited.

-

At the selection of events and Jam-

borees the combination of date,

place, caller and program influences

my decision to drive or not.

-

Whether a special dance brings fun

depends on the caller. He should be

able to fit the degree of difficulty to

the ability of the mass of dancers

(start slowly – increase gradually!!)

-

Annoying: Many events and Jambo-

rees have a high level and low skills!

Better one level lower and therefore

"completely enjoyable".

-

There should be good but not neces-

sarily top callers.

-

MS and Plus should always alternate,

in between one Round tip (at most

2 dances). Pattern tips and Singing

Calls should build up on each other,

which means in the Pattern the most

difficult figures of the following Sing-

ing Call should be explained.

-

I don't like mixed programs at special

dances. I prefer to dance only MS or

only Plus, i.e. to have the possibility

to dance one program continuously

without having to alternate with other

levels or programs.

-

MS and Plus in minimum blocks of

one hour.

-

Dance sessions should consist of one

level, not mixed (i.e. A1/A2).

-

At events with mixed levels look at

the relation between dance time and

badge price for the lowest level of-

fered especially if "Students are wel-

come"!

-

I prefer events/Jamborees with

rounds.

-

No mixture of Round dancing and

fehlt!

-

annehmbare Preise, Familienpakete, Plät-

ze für Wohnmobile.

-

Preisstaffelungen, wenn nur Teile eines

mehrtägigen Programms besucht werden.

-

Bei der Auswahl an Veranstaltungen und

Jamborees bestimmt die Kombination

aus Termin, Ort, Caller und Programm

meine Entscheidung, ob ich hinfahre.

-

Ob eine Veranstaltung Spaß macht liegt

sehr viel am Caller. Er sollte in der Lage

sein, den Schwierigkeitsgrad und das

Tempo der Tänze dem Leistungsvermö-

gen der Masse der Tänzer anzupassen

(langsam anfangen – allmählich stei-

gern!!)

-

Ärgerlich: Viele Veranstaltungen und

Jamborees mit hohem Level und niedri-

gem Niveau! Lieber ein Level tiefer und

dafür auch "ausgereizt".

-

Es sollen gute aber nicht unbedingt Top

Caller sein.

-

MS und Plus sollten immer abwechseln,

dazwischen 1 Roundrunde (höchstens

2 Tänze). Pattern Tips und Singing Calls

sollen aufeinander aufbauen, d.h. im Pat-

tern sollten die schwierigsten Figuren des

anschließenden Singing Call gelehrt wer-

den.

-

Mir gefallen Aufteilungen auf Veranstal-

tungen nicht. Mir ist lieber nur MS oder

nur Plus zu tanzen bzw. die Möglichkeit

dazu durchgehend zu haben und nicht

mit anderen Levels bzw. Programmen zu

wechseln.

-

MS und Plus nur im Stundenwechsel.

-

Tanzsessions sollten aus einem Level,

nicht gemischt (z.B. A1/A2) bestehen.

-

Bei Veranstaltungen mit gemischten Le-

veln das Verhältnis Tanzzeit zu Bad-

gepreis für niedrigstes Level (Preis-

/Leistungs-verhältnis) beachten, v.a. bei

"Students welcome"!

-

Ich bevorzuge Veranstaltungen/Jambo-

Square dancing at special dances.

-

I would never travel to a special with-

out Round Dance.

-

Not so much Round in between the

Squares.

-

Switch the Jamborees to pure Square

Dance events, hire good callers and

offer a good program up to A2 then

the dancers will come and honor it (a

C3 dancer without round knowledge)

-

Also "Special Square Dancing" like

Hot Hash, DBD, Fun Squares (at

least at Jamborees).

-

Integrate students into special dances.

-

More offers for students.

-

Important for me in Square Dancing

is the friendly acceptance for every-

body, the beginner and the advanced,

the thick and the thin, the young and

the old. Not performance but

friendly acceptance counts!

-

Intro to Contra for interested danc-

ers.

-

I'd like to do Round Dancing as a

workshop without preliminary know-

ledge at a Jamboree.

-

Overnight stay in motor homes

should always be possible.

-

One should place motor homes and

caravans not so far away from the

dancing halls.

-

Dinner buffet not after 8 p.m.

-

Why change something??? In my

opinion there are already enough dif-

ferent things offered. Whoever wants

to dance can search in the flyer map

and look for his favourite program.

Kein Mix von Round Dance und Square

Dance bei Veranstaltungen.

Ich würde nie auf eine Veranstaltung

ohne Round Dance fahren.

Nicht so viel Round zwischen den

Squares.

Macht aus den Jamborees reine Square-

Dance-Veranstaltungen, engagiert gute

Caller und bietet gutes Programm bis A2,

dann kommen die Tänzer und honorie-

ren das auch (ein C3-Tänzer ohne

Round-Kenntnisse).

-

Auch "Sonder-Square-Dance" wie Hot

Hash, DBD, Fun Squares (jedenfalls auf

Jamborees).

-

Die Students bei Veranstaltungen einbe-

ziehen.

-

Mehr Angebote für Students.

-

Wichtig am Square Dancing erscheint

mir die freundliche Akzeptanz aller, der

Anfänger und der Fortgeschrittenen, der

Dicken und der Dünnen, der Jungen und

der Alten. Nicht Leistung sondern

freundliche Akzeptanz zählt!

Einführung in Contra für Interessenten.

-

Round Dance würde ich gerne als Work-

shop ohne Vorkenntnisse auf einem Jam-

boree machen.

-

Wohnmobil-Übernachtung soll immer

möglich sein.

-

Man sollte Wohnmobile und Wohnwagen

nicht so weit weg von den Hallen statio-

nieren.

-

Abendbuffet nicht nach 20 Uhr.

-

Warum etwas verändern??? Es wird mei-

ner Meinung nach schon genug Ver-

schiedenes angeboten. Wer tanzen will,

kann die Flyermappe durchschauen und

nach seinem Lieblingsprogramm Aus-

schau halten.
