Ruhrfire Squares e.V.

In Gelsenkirchen, in the heart of the Ruhr
Area, a new Plus club was founded in
April: the “Ruhrfire Squares”.
Prior to the foundation, we observed that
the Plus level is only sparsely represented
in the Ruhr Area. Many clubs offer single
Plus tips during their club nights, but
“pure” Plus virtually does not exist be-
tween Brühl and Paderborn.
However, we feel that the Plus level with
the “right” caller is one of the most beauti-
ful Square Dance programs of all!
No sooner said than done.
Tim Bressinck as caller of our choice im-
mediately embraced our idea, and enough
members were gathered quite soon to
found the club.
The task of finding an affordable room
proved much more difficult. The search
finally led us to a nice school assembly hall
in Gelsenkirchen-Beckhausen, not far from
the well known “Arena auf Schalke”.
However, the naming of the club pre-
sented us with the most difficult problem
of all. It was clear that the Ruhr Area and a
Plus figure should be included in the name.
The tricky part was finding the right com-
bination. When finally we decided on
“Ruhrfire” as a nice combination of “Ruhr
Area” and “Crossfire”, we felt we should
add “Squares”, to avoid confusion with

Der Gründung vorangegangen war die
Beobachtung, dass das Plus-Level im
Ruhrgebiet nur schwach vertreten ist. Vie-
le Clubs streuen in ihre Tanzabende Plus-
Tips ein, aber „reines“ Plus gibt es zwi-
schen Brühl und Paderborn kaum.
Dabei meinen wir doch, dass Plus bei dem
„richtigen“ Caller eines der schönsten
Square-Dance-Programme überhaupt ist.
Gesagt, getan.
Tim Bressinck als unser Wunsch-Caller
war sofort von der Idee begeistert, auch
ausreichend viele Gründungsmitglieder
bald gefunden.
Wesentlich schwieriger war es aber, einen
bezahlbaren Raum zu finden. Die Suche
führte uns schließlich zu einer schönen
Schulaula in Gelsenkirchen-Beckhausen,
unweit der Arena auf Schalke.
Das allergrößte Problem jedoch war die
Namensgebung. Fest stand, dass das
Ruhrgebiet und eine Plus-Figur im Namen
vorkommen sollen. Die Tücke lag dann
aber im Detail. Nachdem „Ruhrfire“ als
schöne Kombination von „Ruhrgebiet“
und „Crossfire“ gefunden war, wurde
kurzfristig noch das „Squares“ ergänzt, um
Verwechslungen mit ähnlich benannten
