Square Dance goes Hollywood

Axel Berger, Yukon Tramps & Drivers Dinslaken

Sunday, 03.July 2005. It is 09:15, the sun

is showing its sunny side, and the first

Square Dancers are registering at cash-

desk number 9 at Movie Park Bottrop-

Kirchhellen. Two dancers and two chil-

dren. It should be an enjoyable family

day in the park with lots of Square

Dancing, Line Dancing and Park Attrac-

tions.

For the fourth time, Movie Park Bott-

rop-Kirchhellen and the Yukon Tramps

& Drivers from Dinslaken, invited

Square and Line Dancers to the great

Western Event: Square Dance goes Holly-

wood.

The co-operation started more by coin-

cidence when four years ago the Free-

Fall Tower was opened. At that time

“Event-Manger” Maik Christian

Schmidt organizing the supporting pro-

gram asked the Yukon Tramps & Driv-

ers to take part in the opening cere-

mony.

The idea of organizing a larger event

grew from this opportunity, where all

Square Dancer would be invited. This

turned out to be a great success.

As in previous years the telephone didn’t

stop ringing and we were being asked

“can I still register” until shortly before

the event. In the end we counted over

700 registrations from 63 Square and

Line Dance Clubs from the “A -1 Team

to the Zugspitz Promenaders”. Lots of

clubs used the opportunity to make it a

club outing and nearly all there club

members where present.

Thanks to good weather this year the

event was held outside. The hard work

Sonntag, 3. Juli 2005. Es ist 9.15 Uhr, die

Sonne zeigt sich pünktlich von der strahlen-

den Seite, und die ersten Square Dancer mel-

den sich an der Kasse 9 des Movieparks in

Bottrop-Kirchhellen. Zwei Tänzer und zwei

Kinder. Es soll ein vergnüglicher Familientag

werden im Vergnügungspark mit viel Spaß

bei Square Dance, Line Dance und den Park-

Attraktionen...

Zum vierten Mal hatten der Moviepark Bott-

rop-Kirchhellen und die Yukon Tramps &

Drivers aus Dinslaken Square- und Line-

Dancer eingeladen zum großen Western-

Event: „Square Dance goes Hollywood“.

Die Zusammenarbeit hat sich eher zufällig

ergeben als vor vier Jahren der Free-Fall-

Tower auf dem Gelände eingeweiht wurde.

Damals kam der „Event-Manager“ Maik-

Christian Schmidt bei der Gestaltung des

Rahmenprogramms auf die Yukon Tramps

& Drivers, die sich dann bei der Eröffnung

mit einem Auftritt präsentieren konnten.

Bei dieser Gelegenheit wuchs die Idee, eine

größere Veranstaltung zu organisieren, zu der

alle Square-Dancer eingeladen werden, was

schließlich auch zu einem grandiosen Erfolg

führte.

So auch in diesem Jahr... „Kann ich mich

noch anmelden“, lautete immer wieder die

Frage bis kurz vor dem Veranstaltungster-

min. Das Telefon stand nicht still. Schließlich

zählten wir weit über 700 Registrierungen. 63

Square- und Line-Dance-Clubs waren vertre-

ten: vom „A1-Team“ bis zu den „Zugspitz-

Promenaders“. Viele Clubs hatten die Gele-

genheit zu einem „Betriebsausflug“ genutzt

und waren fast vollständig vertreten.

Dank des Sonnenscheins fand die Veranstal-

tung diesmal „Open-Air“ statt – eine

schweißtreibende Sache für Tänzer und das

and Wolfgang Haehnel a lot of sweat. A

lot of spectators became inquisitive by

the music and the colourful activities

“strangely dressed people”. They wat-

ched with interest and gained informa-

tion by asking the dancers.

Apart from the dancing, there was plen-

ty of opportunity to test and enjoy the

attractions of the park which pleased

everyone.

The impressive climax was the participa-

tion in the parks closing parade. Mixed

in with the stars of the shows, were pet-

ticoats and western outfits dominating

the picture. It was a successful day and

everybody was in good spirits as they

thanked the host Movie Park, repre-

sented by Maik Christian Schmidt, who

answered with “we would like to see you

again on 2

nd

July 2006”.

Caller-Team Astrid Heckmann und Wolfgang

Haehnel. Viele Zuschauer wurden durch die

Musik und das bunte Treiben „merkwürdig

gekleideter Menschen“ angelockt. Sie schau-

ten interessiert zu und informierten sich bei

den Tänzern über Square Dance.

Neben dem Tanzangebot gab es aber auch

ausreichend Gelegenheit, die vielfältigen Att-

raktionen des Parks kennenzulernen und zu

testen, was nicht nur die Kinder erfreute.

Eindrucksvoller Höhepunkt war die Teil-

nahme an der abschließenden Park-Parade.

Zwischen den Stars der Shows beherrschten

bunte Petticoats und vielfältiges Western –

Outfit das Gesamtbild. Dies war ein gelun-

gener Tag und es herrschte gute Stimmung

bei den Teilnehmern, die sich mit großem

Applaus beim Gastgeber Moviepark, vertre-

ten durch Maik Christian Schmidt, bedank-

ten. Seine gern gehörte Antwort: „Wir möch-

ten Euch am 2. Juli 2006 gerne wiederse-

hen.“
