The Tamara Twirlers Munich are orga-

nizing the Spring Jamboree 2006 in the

ASV halls in Dachau from March, 10

th

to 12

th

2006. Therefore we’d like to in-

troduce ourselves briefly and we hope,

that we’ll be able to convince you, that

even a Round-Dance Club can organize

a great Jamboree. Our invitation is ad-

dressed to all dancers, no matter

whether Square-, Round-, Clogging- or

Contra-Dancers. You are all cordially

invited to experience a wonderful Jam-

boree with us.

Foundation in 1977

In the second half of 1976 Didi

Bergdoll and his partner Fran Hartmann

held the first Round Dance class in Mu-

nich. After the graduation on Decem-

ber, 15th 1976 the Tamara Twirlers Mu-

nich were founded by Didi Bergdoll,

Fran Hartmann, Helmut Frey, Rosi

Reisinger, Klaus Völkl and Marion Loibl

(now Völkl) on the 1st of March 1977.

Four of these six foundation members

are still active dancers today!!

The small club was very active and held

its first Round Dance Special in Bavaria

in May 1978, which was the “Round-e-

vous” at the castle in Dachau. From

1980 to 2000 the “Round-e-vous” was

held every year, in some cases as a two-

or three-day-event with Square on the

program. Moreover the Tamara Twirlers

took part in co-organizing the following

Wir wollen uns kurz vorstellen und hoffen

Euch davon zu überzeugen, dass auch ein

Round-Dance Club eine tolle Jamboree or-

ganisieren kann. Unsere Einladung ist an alle

Tänzer, egal ob Square-, Round-, Clogging

oder Contra Dance gerichtet. Ihr seid alle

herzlich willkommen, mit uns eine schöne

Jamboree zu erleben!

Gründung 1977

Im 2. Halbjahr 1976 wurde in München die

erste Round Dance Klasse von Didi Bergdoll

und seiner Partnerin Fran Hartmann durch-

geführt. Nach der Graduation (am

15.12.1976) wurden die Tamara Twirlers

Munich am 03.01.1977 von Didi Bergdoll,

Fran Hartmann, Helmut Frey, Rosi Reisinger,

Klaus Völkl und Marion Loibl (jetzt Völkl)

gegründet. Vier der sechs Gründungsmit-

glieder sind nach wie vor aktive Mitglieder!!!

Der kleine Club war sehr aktiv und veranstal-

tete bereits im Mai 1978 den ersten Round-

Dance-Special in Bayern nämlich das

„Round-e-vous“ im Dachauer Schloß. In den

Jahren 1980 bis 2000 fand das Round-e-vous

jährlich statt, zum Teil als 2- oder 3-tägige

Veranstaltung auch mit Square Dance im

Programm. Außerdem wirkten die Tamara

Twirlers bei folgenden Großveranstaltungen

Following Didi Bergdoll and Dagi Rödi-

ger, Klaus Völkl took over the position

of the club cuer in 1980, which he held

on his own until 1986. He formed the

Tamara Twirlers and during this time he

started consequently teaching figures in

classes. So you didn’t learn the choreog-

raphy by heart any more but the figures

separately. He also tried new methods in

teaching and new rhythms and he didn’t

begin the classes solely with Two-Step

any more. In 1986 he was joined by Jür-

gen Müller as a teacher and the dancing

and teaching concept was developed

further and adjusted. Meanwhile there

was more than Waltz and Two-Step in

Round Dance, gradually the Standard

and Latin Rhythms gained acceptance.

In 1994 the cuer team was joined by As-

trid Reich and Manuela Süß. The cuers

coordinated and divided the program

accordingly. Astrid left us in 1996 and

Martin Prüfer came on board in 1999.

The classes became bigger and so did the

amount of things to learn, too. The Mu-

nich cuers agreed, that the Round Dance

beginner classes were to be held in the

Square Dance clubs and the advanced

classes by the Tamara Twirlers. The four

cuers worked as a team, on the club eve-

nings as well as at the classes. The num-

ber of members has now increased now

to 85.

We still dance at the MCG-Ranch in

Oberföhring. Because of the different

dancing experience we divided the levels

into three groups:

Nach Didi Bergdoll und Dagi Rödiger über-

nahm Klaus Völkl im Jahre 1980 das Amt

des Clubcuers, das er bis 1986 alleine inne

hatte. Er prägte die Tamara Twirlers und

begann während dieser Zeit das konsequente

Figuren-Teaching in den Klassen durch-

zusetzen. Man lernte also nicht die Choreo-

grafien der Tänze, sondern die einzelnen

Figuren. Auch probierte er neue Methoden

des Teachens und andere Rhythmen aus und

begann die Klassen nicht mehr ausschließlich

mit Two-Step. Im Jahr 1986 kam Jürgen Mül-

ler als Teacher hinzu und das Tanz- und

Lehrkonzept wurde weiterentwickelt und

angepasst. Mittlerweile gab es auch beim

Round Dance nicht mehr nur Walzer und

Two-Step, allmählich setzten sich immer

mehr die Standard- und vor allem die Latein-

Rhythmen durch.

Im Jahr 1994 traten dem Cuer-Team Astrid

Reich und Manuela Süß bei. Die Cuer stimm-

ten sich ab und teilten das Programm ent-

sprechend auf. Astrid hat uns im Jahr 1996

wieder verlassen und Martin Prüfer ist seit

1999 mit an Bord.

Die Klassen wurden größer, das Lernpensum

auch. Die Münchner Cuer verständigten sich

darauf, dass RD-Anfängerklassen in den

Square Dance Clubs stattfinden und die sog.

„Aufbau-Klasse“ (oder der Fortgeschritte-

nen-Kurs) durch die Tamara Twirlers ange-

boten wird. Die vier Cuer arbeiten als Team,

sowohl bei den Clubabenden als auch bei den

Klassen. Die Mitgliederzahl ist inzwischen

auf 85 angestiegen.

Wir tanzen nach wie vor auf der MCG-

Ranch in Oberföhring. Aufgrund der ver-

schiedenen Tanzerfahrung haben wir das

Tanzlevel in drei Gruppen eingeteilt:

cial” rhythms like Tango, Quickstep,

Paso Doble, Bolero or Slow Twostep.

INTERMEDIATE = phase IV to V

including all rhythms.

ADVANCED = phase V and VI

We dance on Thursdays as well as on two

Sundays a month. If there is a fifth

Thursday in a month we also hold our

so-called Fun & Easy evening for all

Tamara Twirlers and guests (especially

Round Dancers from Square Dance

Clubs, who find our usual level too high).

Together with our guests we spend a

pleasant dance evening without work-

shops. In 2006 there will once more be

four of those evenings at the Tamara

Twirlers.

It’s true that we are a Round Dance club,

but we are all Square Dancers, too.

Therefore we decided to organize a Jam-

boree. Here in Munich we are lucky, that

there are still Square Dance clubs that

include Round Dance in their program.

Despite the developments elsewhere the

co-habitation of Square Dance and

Round Dance works very well, and that

is the reason why we would like to share

this “sense of togetherness” with you.

There is so much competitive mentality

in our dog-eat-dog-society, that we don’t

need that in our leisure time as well. Let’s

enjoy our common hobby of Square and

Round Dance together and let’s all have

fun. We hope you will join us as:

Wir tanzen donnerstags sowie an zwei Sonn-

tagen im Monat. Sollte es einen fünften

Donnerstag im Monat geben, veranstalten

wir für alle Tamara Twirlers – und vor allem

für Gäste (Round Dancer aus Square Dance

Clubs, denen unser übliches Level zu hoch

ist) – unseren sog. „Fun & Easy-Abend“, an

dem wir zusammen mit unseren Gästen ohne

Workshop einen netten Tanzabend verbrin-

gen. Im Jahr 2006 wird es wieder vier solcher

Abende bei den Tamara Twirlers geben.

Zwar sind wir ein Round Dance Club, doch

sind wir alle auch Square Dancer, weshalb

wir uns dafür entschieden haben, ein Jambo-

ree auszurichten. Hier in München sind wir

in der glücklichen Lage, noch Square Dance

Clubs zu haben, in denen auch Round Dance

angeboten wird. Entgegen dem Trend funk-

tioniert das Zusammenleben zwischen

Square- und Round-Dancern in den Clubs

nach wie vor sehr gut, weshalb wir dieses

„WIR-GEFÜHL“ gerne mit Euch allen tei-

len möchten. Es gibt auf der Welt soviel

Konkurrenz-Denken und Ellenbogen-

Gesellschaften, dass muss in der Freizeit

nicht sein. Lasst uns gemeinsam unser Hob-

by, den Square- und Round-Dance in Freude

ausführen und alle sollen Spaß dabei haben.
