Once upon a time 20 years ago... /
Es war einmal vor 20 Jahren...

... on 4 August 1986, the graduates of a
square dance class came together to
perform the first dance of the Spargel
Spinners square dancers. From this day
on, the Spargel Spinners and their caller,
Al Stevens, started their own club.
Dance nights took place on a regular
basis at the Gasthaus "Adler" in Plank-
stadt. It wasn't long before the first club
newspaper, "The Spargelgramm", came
out, with information, announcements
and reports of and for members.
Activity followed activity: a five-
country tour, the first graduation, and
the first birthday party, celebrated with
250 dancers from 150 clubs attending
from all over Germany and even from
Sweden, Belgium, and Holland. The
party took place in St. Leon Rot at the
sport and culture centre "Harres". The
motto "Sweden Special" was called by
Stefan Sidholm and Ingvar Peterson.
Round dance cuer was Angelika Seng.
There were other Specials that followed:
Stoneage, Seaside, Sixties, Space, Sea-
farers, Sunflower and so it went on with
the "S" Specials until 2006. And this
year, the Spargel Spinners' Spargel Spe-
cial will take place. All Specials will fall
under this name for the next few years.
In 1988, the club took part in its first
demo at the Plankstadter Street party
and were present with a stand, at which
American and Mexican specialities were

Dance“ der Spargel Spinners durchzuführen.
Ab diesem Zeitpunkt begann der Aufbau des
Clubs zusammen mit Al Stevens als Caller
geführtem Club.
Regelmäßige Tanzabende fanden in der Gast-
stätte „Adler“ in Plankstadt statt, die auch
später immer mal wieder zum Ausweichplatz
wurde. Schon bald kam die erste Clubzeitung
– das Spargelgramm – heraus, mit Infos, Mit-
teilungen und Berichten von und für Mitglie-
der. Eine Aktion folgte der anderen: Five
Country-Tour, die 1. Graduation und der
1. Geburtstag. Gefeiert wurde mit 250 Tän-
zern und Tänzerinnen von 150 Clubs aus
dem gesamten Bundesgebiet. Sogar aus
Schweden, Belgien und Holland waren Gäste
nach St. Leon Rot ins Sport- u. Kulturzent-
rum „Harres“ angereist. Dem Motto
„Swedish Special“ entsprechend callten Ste-
fan Sidholm und Ingvar Peterson. Round-
Cuerin war Angelika Seng. Diesem Special
folgten noch viele, z.B. das Stoneage Special,
Seaside Special, Sixties Special, Space Special,
Seafarers Special über das Sunflower Special
– so gings fort mit den „S“ Specials bis zum
Jahr 2006, wo nun auch das “Spargel Spinners
Spargel Special” ansteht. In den folgenden
Jahren wird dies nun weiterhin so heißen.
