Bavarian bear busters neureichenau

It is only a 20 km distance between the

district town Freyung and the also very

nice looking Bayrischer Wald town Wald-

kirchen and the idyllic Bavarian village

Neureichenau.

Some of us had been dancing with the

Bavarian Wood Ghosts in Riedlhütte. Due

to the fact that it takes approximately one

hour to get there in the winter time and

that Family Resch, owner of the guest

house “Hüttenmeister” offered us a danc-

ing place with a cosy fire place and good

Bavarian food; we decided to form a club

with a class beginning March 2005 there.

Of course, we made sure that our Caller,

Hans Wandtner, was at our disposal. I

don’t know anybody who is so patient,

humorous and perseverant with a class.

We also owe our name to him: As 150

years ago the last bear was shot in the

Böhmerwald (signs can be seen on the

Bärenpfad), and rumour has it that in the

area of the Dreisesselgebiet (our local

mountain, 1,320 m above sea level), sup-

posedly a bear was seen, we all agreed

with the name “Bavarian bear busters”.

Since Hans Wandtner has the necessary

know-how, he also created the badge. The

Einige von uns waren vorher bei den Bava-

rian Wood Ghosts in Riedlhütte. Da dies im

Winter ca. 1 Stunde Fahrzeit ist, und wir im

Gasthaus zum Hüttenmeister bei der Fami-

lie Resch einen Tanzplatz im urigen Wirts-

haus mit kuschelig warmer Ofenheizung

sowie guter bayrischer Küche fanden, ent-

schlossen wir uns, hier einen neuen Club

mit Class ab März 2005 zu gründen. Unse-

ren Caller, Hans Wandtner, haben wir uns

natürlich vorher gesichert – ich kennen kei-

nen Mann, der so geduldig, humorvoll und

ausdauernd eine Class leitet. Ihm ist auch

unser Clubname zu verdanken: da im

Böhmerwald vor 150 Jahren der letzte Bär

erlegt wurde (der Bärenpfad weist noch

darauf hin) und außerdem Gerüchte um-

gingen, dass im Dreisesselgebiet (unser

Hausberg, 1320 m hoch, mit Skilift) angeb-

lich ein Bär gesichtet wurde, waren wir alle

mit „bavarian bear busters“ einverstanden.

Das Badge wurde ebenfalls von Hans

Wandtner gestaltet, da er das nötige know

how hat. Es zeigt zwei Bären, die es sich

At present, we mostly dance on Sundays

at 15:00 hrs together with the class. Un-

fortunately, also our main problem is the

lack of men – thus our flexible ladies

have to learn the men’s part.

I was elected as interim president since I

know how to handle a computer and am

at home most of the time. I also seem to

have the necessary club know-how, ap-

pearance and reputation. Our vice presi-

dent Ingrid Kralik is at the same time our

“club-directrice.” She sows for us very

nice looking clothes and looks after us

motherly. Bears having a wedding or a

birthday get a square dance outfit as a gift.

She used to dance with her 8 year old

grand child who didn’t want to dance any

longer – soccer is more important. Our

treasurer Lieserl Mayerhofer dance with

her 10 year old sun, who does a great job.

The members of the interim board who

had been in office since March 2005 were

unanimously and officially elected and

confirmed in their board positions during

the first annual membership meeting.

Everybody is welcome no matter if you

are young or old. Unfortunately, this is

not the case in all clubs. Since we are still

a small club, we are on familiar terms with

each other – I am even allowed to bring

along my dog. Should a guest dislike it,

naturally the dogs stays in the car and

waits for me.

The geographic position of our club of-

fers the possibility to visit several clubs in

a distance of less than 100 kilometres.

The clubs dance on Thursdays, Fridays

and Saturdays. We kindly ask our guests to

Momentan tanzen wir meistens Sonntag, 15

Uhr, zusammen mit der Class. Leider ist

auch bei uns das Hauptproblem, dass Män-

ner fehlen – unsere flexiblen Damen lernen

halt hier die Männerrolle.

Vorläufiger President wurde ich, weil ich

mit einem PC umgehen kann und meistens

zuhause bin, Vereinserfahrung habe und

wohl auch das nötige Auftreten und Anse-

hen habe. Unsere vice-president Ingrid

Kralik ist gleichzeitig unsere „club-

directrice“. Sie näht uns allen wunderschö-

ne Kleidung und betreut alle ganz mütter-

lich. Für Hochzeiten und Geburtstage be-

kommen Bären als Geschenk von ihr die

Square-Dance-Kleidung. Sie tanzte auch

mit ihrem 8-jährigen Enkel, der leider nicht

mehr wollte, Fußball ist ihm näher. Unsere

treasurer Lieserl Mayerhofer tanzt mit ih-

rem 10-jährigen Sohn, der seine Sache su-

per macht. Die vorläufige Vorstandschaft

seit März 2005 wurde bei der ersten Jahres-

hauptversammlung am 19.2.2006 einstim-

mig offiziell in ihre Ämter gewählt bzw.

bestätigt.

Bei uns ist jeder willkommen. Es wird jung

und alt akzeptiert, so wie er ist, was leider

nicht in allen Clubs so ist. Da wir noch ein

kleiner Club sind, ist der Umgang mitein-

ander sehr familiär – ich darf sogar meinen

Hund mitbringen. Sollte ein Gast dies nicht

mögen, wartet er selbstverständlich im Au-

to auf mich.

Die geographische Lage unseres Clubs bie-

tet die Möglichkeite, mehrere andere Clubs

im Umkreis von unter 100 km ebenfalls zu

betanzen, donnerstags, freitags, samstags.
