The mascot of the square dance club
'Smiling Bavarians', a pretty little doll
named Heidi-Ho, has just returned from a
very long trip around the world. During
the past eight years, Heidi-Ho has visited
111 square dance clubs in seven countries,
for example, in Canada, Australia, New
Zealand, the United Kingdom and Scan-
dinavia.
The whole story began in 1998 when the
then-board members were presented with
two dolls named Heidi-Ho and Ferris
Wheel, which resemble the symbols of
the Smiling Bavarians' club emblem. This
present gave rise to the idea that Heidi-
Ho should tour the world as a travelling
mascot that takes the idea of friendship
connected with American square dance
from country to country and from club to
club.
After a visit to the Smiling Bavarians in
Neutraubling, the Canadians Betty and
Tony Biro kindly invited little Heidi-Ho to
join them for their journey home. Hence,
our little girl's adventure started overseas
with a visit to the 'Star Promenadors' in
Richmond, BC. Pretty soon she was swept
off to Australia. Many postcards and nu-
merous entries in the friendship book
document the warm welcome Heidi-Ho
received 'Down under'.
The badge of each club that Heidi-Ho
had visited was presented on a special
banner during every annual national
square dance event of the Smiling Bavar-
ians, the so-called Protzenhopper Dance.
Between 2003 and 2006, however, our
adventurous mascot was missing and we

ganze Welt bereist und war in sieben Län-
dern bei insgesamt 111 Square Dance
Clubs zu Gast. Unter anderem hielt sie sich
zeitweilig in Kanada, Australien, Neusee-
land, England und Skandinavien auf.
Angefangen hatte das Ganze 1998, als der
damaligen Vorstandschaft der Smiling Ba-
varians zwei Puppen überreicht wurden, die
Heidi Ho und der Ferris Wheel. Die beiden
symbolisieren das Vereinsemblem und
schnell war die Idee geboren, dass Heidi als
Wandermaskottchen um die Welt touren
sollte, um den mit dem American Square
Dance verbundenen Freundschaftsgedan-
ken von Club zu Club über die Grenzen
Deutschlands hinaus in die ganze Welt zu
tragen.
Die kanadischen Tänzer Betty & Tony Biro
übernahmen die kleine Dame bei einem
Besuch des Clubabends in Neutraubling
und so begann die abenteuerliche Reise
gleich nach Übersee mit einer Veranstaltung
der "Star Promenadors" in Richmond, BC.
Danach führte sie ihr Weg ziemlich schnell
nach Australien, was durch viele Postkarten
und durch die Einträge in das sogenannte
"Friendship Book" belegt ist.
Auf der alljährlichen überregionalen Square
Dance Veranstaltung der Smiling Bavarians,
dem sog. Protzenhopper Dance, wurden
auf einem eigenen Banner die Abzeichen
der Clubs präsentiert, die Heidi Ho schon
alle besucht hatte.
In der Zeit zwischen 2003 und 2006 galt
