Coconuts

The Coconuts are a square dance club in
Leinzell, a small community in the heart of
the idyllic Lein valley between the cities of
Schwäbisch Gmünd, Aalen and Ellwangen,
in the western part of the Eastalb district.
The (pre)history of the Coconuts starts in
1984 when the caller Roy Cattermoul
started a class in the "Reichsadler" in Mögg-
lingen. This group, who was graduated by
Uli Schingen in 1985, then started the
Coconuts. For the following years they
danced in the "Krone" in Leinzell. Of this
original founding group four are still active
members of the Coconuts.
At the end of 1985 the Coconuts also or-
ganized the first New Years Eve Dance.
Since then, with only one exception, this
special was held regularly every year. In the
year 2000 the community centre in Leinzell
was being renovated so that the special
2000/2001 could not take place. Since the
year 2004 they no longer have the New
Years Eve special.
In addition, up to the year 1993 the Coco-
nuts with the help of their students orga-
nized a student party every March. Starting
with their 20th anniversary, this "Coco
party" was continued as special.
After several caller changes in the initial
years, Wolfgang "Wuffi" Daiss came to the
Coconuts. He called for the club for 10
years. At this point we wish to express here
again our gratefulness for the extended and
pleasant collaboration. Since July of 2003
Ulli Hantke calls for the Coconuts.
The Coconuts count at present 30 mem-
bers. Together with the Staufen Knights we
organize the Spring Jamboree in Kuchen
near Göppingen which takes place this year
from March 9 through 11.

Die Coconuts sind ein Square Dance Club
aus Leinzell, einer kleinen Gemeinde im
Herzen des idyllischen Leintals zwischen
Schwäbisch Gmünd, Aalen und Ellwangen,
im Westen des Ostalbkreises.
Die (Vor-)Geschichte der Coconuts begann
im Jahre 1984 als der Caller Roy Cattermoul
in der Gaststätte "Reichsadler" in Mögglin-
gen eine neue Class begann. Die Gruppe, die
1985 von Uli Schingen graduiert wurde,
gründete anschließend die Coconuts. Ihr
Tanzplatz wurde für die nächsten Jahre die
Gaststädte "Krone" in Leinzell. Von den
Gründungsmitgliedern sind noch vier bei
den Coconuts aktiv.
Zum Sylvester 1985 wurde auch der erste
Sylvester Dance von den Coconuts aus-
gerichtet. Der Specialdance wurde seit dem,
mit einer Ausnahme, regelmässig durchge-
führt. Im Jahre 2000 wurde die Gemeinde-
halle in Leinzell renoviert und die Veran-
staltung zum Jahreswechsel 2000/2001
musste leider ausfallen. Seit 2004 veranstal-
ten sie keine Silvesterparty mehr.
Zusammen mit ihren Students richteten die
Coconuts außerdem jedes Jahr im März, bis
zum Jahre 1993, eine Studentparty aus. Ab
dem 20-jährigen Jubiläum 2005 wird diese
Cocoparty als Special weitergeführt.
Nach mehreren Callerwechseln in den An-
fangsjahren kam 1991 Wolfgang "Wuffi"
Daiss zu den Coconuts. Er callte über 10
Jahre für den Club. Es sei ihm an dieser
Stelle nochmals für seine lange und gute Zu-
sammenarbeit gedankt. Seit Juli 2003 callt
nun Ulli Hantke für die Coconuts.
Die Coconuts haben zur Zeit 30 Mitglieder.
Zusammen mit den Staufen Knights richten
wir das Spring Jamboree in Kuchen bei
Göppingen vom 9.-11. März 2007 aus.
