30 Years / 30 Jahre Hannover Hearties

This year from 24th – 26th August the

Hannover Hearties will be celebrating their

30th anniversary with the Heartie-Party

2007. And the first Heartie Party took

place such a short time ago – at least it

feels like that to me.

In 2002 we organised a huge party on the

occasion of our 25th birthday with 8 call-

ers, 2 clogging instructors, 2 cuers and with

you – that means with 1,000 guests. Being

relatively new to square dance – a gigantic

affair for me. I was overcome from the

very beginning. The preparations before-

hand, the callers and the atmosphere

during the Heartie Party, all the friendly

people, the magnificent weather and won-

derful Square dance feeling – and there was

I amongst it all. Square dance is Friendship

in Music – once again I experienced it here

– live.

My enthusiasm was shared by many

Hearties and non-members. And so we are

embarking on the same project again – the

Heartie Party 2007. In the same halls as

before – but also with a lovely new room

for round dance in a recently built annex.

Again there will be many first class callers,

instructors and cuers – even 1 caller more

than we had 5 years ago. 10 shops are situ-

ated directly next to the main hall, and

doch erst vor Kurzem die erste Heartie

Party statt. So erscheint es mir jedenfalls.

2002 stellten wir eine Riesen-Party zum

25. Geburtstag auf die Beine, in fünf

Hallen, mit acht Callern, zwei Clogging

Instructoren, zwei Cuern und mit Euch –

das heißt mit 1000 Gästen. Für mich als

relativer Tanz- und Heartie-Neuling da-

mals eine gigantische Angelegenheit. Ich

war überwältigt, bereits von Anfang an.

Die Vorbereitungen vorher, die Caller und

die Stimmung während der Heartie Party,

die vielen netten Leute, das tolle

Wetter und das wunderbare Square-

Dance-Feeling – und ich mittendrin.

Square Dance is Friendship in Music –

hier erlebte ich es wieder einmal live.

Die Begeisterung teilte ich mit vielen –

Hearties und Nicht-Hearties. Daher wa-

gen wir es mit der Heartie Party 2007

noch einmal! In den bewährten Hallen –

aber ein neuer, schöner Raum direkt dabei

für die Round Tänzer. Wieder viele erst-

klassige Caller, Intructor und Cuer – sogar

ein Caller mehr als vor fünf Jahren.

there will be 19 hours of dancing in the

levels of mainstream up to C1 and in addi-

tion continuous programs of round dance

and clogging. As an extra bonus we have

extended the pre-registration period to the

18

th

June. Final pre-registration will now

take place at our regular club-evening when

we will have the pleasure of welcoming

Johnny Preston as guest caller.

When I first came to Hanover in 2001 and

joined the Hearties I didn’t know where I

had landed. Having approximately 140

members it is a large club which likes to

invite guest-callers from all over the world

to its club evenings. It has a very good

caller, Ralf Kollmeyer, who is well versed

in this field. All this was immediately

noticeable to me during my first visits.

I only discovered later that the club was

originally founded in 1977 as a square

dance group for children, in those days be-

ing affiliated to the association of the

“Hannoversche Sportjugend”. At that time

the demand was enormous – every evening

up to 10 squares were dancing together.

Enthusiastically they set about producing

their own dancing attire – hundreds of me-

tres of net were transformed into petti-

coats, a blue fabric with a pattern of red

hearts was made into skirts – and so we

become known as the “Hearties”. Horst

Buresch, the founder and caller of the

Hearties was succeeded by Gerd Stein-

führer in 1980. Ralf has been our club

caller from as far back as 1983 and now

holds sessions two evenings a week in the

levels of mainstream, plus and A1.

From the beginning I was made to feel at

home with the Hearties and to this day

nothing has changed. I very much hope

that you will feel just as welcome when you

are our guests at the Heartie Party. We are

looking forward to seeing you then.

Round und Clogging. Lasst Euch wieder

begeistern – wir laden Euch ganz herzlich

dazu ein. Als Extrabonus haben wir den

Voranmeldetermin bis zum 18. Juni

verlängert – Anmeldeschluss ist nun der

Abend, an dem wir Johnny Preston als

Gastcaller bei unserem regulären Club-

abend begrüßen dürfen.

Als ich 2001 nach Hannover zog und ein

Heartie wurde, wusste ich gar nicht, wo

ich gelandet war. Es ist mit rund 140 Mit-

gliedern ein großer Club, der gerne

Gastcaller aus der ganzen Welt zu den

Clubabenden einlädt. Mit Ralf Kollmeyer

verfügt er über einen sehr guten und an-

spruchsvollen Clubcaller. Das alles merkte

ich gleich bei meinen ersten Besuchen.

Dass der Club bereits 1977 über die Han-

noversche Sportjugend als eine Square

Dance Gruppe für Kinder gegründet

worden ist, erfuhr ich erst später. Die

Nachfrage war damals riesig, bis zu 10

Squares tanzten pro Abend. Mit Begeiste-

rung wurde Tanzkleidung in Eigenregie

genäht: Hunderte von Metern Tüll wur-

den zu Petticoats, ein jeansblauer Stoff

mit roten Herzchen zu Röcken verarbeitet

– so kamen wir zu unserem Namen

„Hearties“. Nach Horst Buresch, Gründer

und Caller der Hearties bis 1980, über-

nahm Gerd Steinführer bis 1983 diese

Aufgabe. Bereits seit 1983 ist Ralf unser

Clubcaller und gestaltet wöchentlich zwei

Abende, von Mainstream über Plus bis

A1.

Ich fühlte mich von Anfang an gut bei

den Hearties aufgehoben und dieses

Gefühl ist noch immer da. Ich hoffe von

Herzen, dass es Euch im August als

unsere Gäste bei der Heartie Party genau-

so ergehen wird. Wir freuen uns auf

Euch.
