My article "Designing Flyers: Do not forget
the Rail Travellers!/ Flyergestaltung: Denkt
an die Bahnfahrer!“ in the June Bulletin
(p.16-18) attracted an unexpectedly large
amount of positive feedback. I have there-
fore decided to provide some more general
flyer designing information. It is in the
nature of the matter that as the Editor, I
take a more intensive look at the flyers in
the course of my preparing the Bulletin
than many other dancers.
Question: What is the most important
information on a flyer?
The Caller, is the answer from many of
those who are responsible in the clubs.
This is why they print the Caller's name
large and bold.
The date, many Travel Coordinators and
those Club members who look after the
chronologically sorted flyer folders will
reply.
This is true. As a dancer, I look at the date
first and check that I do not have any other
job or private obligations on the day the
Special is being held.
One has to search for the date on a lot of
flyers however: it is either printed very
small or sloping, hidden in a corner or in
extreme cases, it has been completely for-
gotten (as has happened in the past!).
I therefore searched for negative and posi-
tive ideas in the June Bulletin.
Negative examples:

17th Moorteufel-Dance (18/8) (eve-
rything printed the same size, even
the date which one only finds after
searching for it. Only the Caller
names are larger and printed bold)
Mein Beitrag „Designing Flyers: Do not
forget the Rail Travellers!/ Flyergestaltung:
Denkt an die Bahnfahrer!“ im Juni-Bulletin
(S. 16-18) fand unerwartet viel positive
Resonanz bei den Lesern. Daher habe ich
mich entschlossen, weitere allgemeine Hin-
weise zur Flyergestaltung zu geben. Natur-
gemäß sehe ich mir als Editor Monat für
Monat bei der Bulletinherstellung die Flyer
intensiver an als viele andere Tänzer.
Frage: Was ist die wichtigste Information
auf einem Flyer?
Die Caller, werden viele Clubverantwortliche
antworten. Daher drucken sie die Caller-
namen entsprechend groß und fett.
Das Datum, werden viele Travel-Coordi-
natoren und jene Clubmitglieder antworten,
die ihre – chronologisch sortierten – Flyer-
mappen betreuen.
Stimmt. Ich als Tänzer schaue doch zuerst
auf den Termin und prüfe, ob ich keine be-
ruflichen oder anderen privaten Verpflich-
tungen an dem Tag des Specials habe.
Auf vielen Flyern muss man aber nach dem
Datum lange suchen: entweder ist es nur
sehr klein oder schräg gedruckt, in einer
Ecke versteckt oder – im Extremfall – ganz
vergessen worden (ist auch schon pas-
siert!).
Im Juni-Bulletin habe ich daher mal nach
negativen und positiven Beispielen gesucht.

(große Fotos der Caller, kleingedruck-
tes Datum)
17. Moorteufel-Dance (18.8.) (alles
gleichmäßig kleine Schriftgröße, auch
das Datum, das man erst nach länge-
rem Suchen findet. Einzig die Caller-
namen sind größer und fett gedruckt)
