We are the “new ones” / Wir sind die “Neuen”
Dear Dancers,
Today we are reporting to the bulletin as
Youth representatives for the first time.
This fact opens two interesting ques-
tions: On the one hand who is "we" and
on the other what does a youth repre-
sentative do?
The first one can be quickly answered.
We are Kai & Carina, two enthusiastic
Square Dancers from Stuttgart (while
Carina originally comes from Vaale in
Schleswig-Holstein). We are both mem-
bers of the Stoke-Boat Promenaders in
Tübingen. Carina is also a member of
the Draw-Bridge Divers in Wilster-
marsch, while Kai is a member of the
Stuttgarter Rebläuse. As we are both in
our mid-twenties we are not exactly
youths any more, but we are still close to
it.
The second question is more difficult.
First of all we want to state what we are
NOT. We do not want to organize the
youth or make special events for them.
These subjects are covered by other
Groups, who do a very good job. We do
not want to compete with them. We see
ourselves as an organ of communica-
tion. Communication from the youth to
the community as well as from the com-
munity to the youth. We want to repre-
sent the interests and wishes of the
youth, to make Square dance more at-
tractive to them, and we want to maintain
the balance with the other groups within
the community. All groups are welcome
and their needs have to be respected.
The youth is one of these groups. Many
misunderstandings can be cleared, the
moment you talk to the youth rather than

Heute melden wir uns zum ersten Mal als
Jugendvertreter der EAASDC hier im Bulletin
zu Wort. Eine Tatsache, die zwei Fragen auf-
wirft. Zum einen: Wer ist "Wir“? Zum anderen:
„Was macht ein Jugendvertreter?“
Die erste Frage ist schnell beantwortet. „Wir“
sind Kai & Carina, zwei begeisterte Square
Dancer aus Stuttgart (Carina ist eine Zuge-
zogene oder "Neig'schmeggte" wie wir hier
sagen, aus Vaale in Schleswig-Holstein). Wir
sind beide Mitglieder der Stoke-Boat Prome-
naders, Tübingen. Carina ist darüber hinaus
noch Mitglied der Draw-Bridge Divers, Wilster-
marsch und Kai Mitglied der Stuttgarter Reb-
läuse. Als Mittzwanziger sind wir, auch wenn
wir keine Jugendlichen mehr sind, doch ziem-
lich nahe an der Jugend dran.
Der zweite Punkt ist schon etwas schwieriger.
Zuerst möchten wir feststellen, was wir NICHT
sind. Wir wollen die Jugend nicht organisieren
noch spezielle Events vorbereiten. Da haben
sich in Deutschland bereits Gruppen gebildet,
die das sehr gut machen und zu denen wir
keine Konkurrenz darstellen wollen. Wir ver-
stehen uns vielmehr als Sprachrohr. Als
Sprachrohr der Jugend an die Squaredance
Gemeinde, aber auch als Sprachrohr der
Squaredance Gemeinde an die Jugendlichen.
So wie wir auf der einen Seite die Interessen
und Wünsche der Jugendlichen in der
EAASDC vertreten möchten um Squaredance
für die Jugend attraktiver zu machen, wollen
wir dabei aber auch immer die Balance zu den
anderen Gruppen innerhalb der Szene halten.
Jede Gruppe ist willkommen und muss in ihren
Bedürfnissen geachtet werden. Die Jugend ist
eine dieser Gruppen. In dem Moment, in dem
mit anstatt über die Jugend gesprochen wird,
können viele Missverständnisse und Probleme
