| During our
Florida vacation in February/March this year we four men planned to visit
a club in Cape Coral.
We had properly informed the local club about our visit; however, we had not mentioned that we were only four men. When we arrived at the dance hall, we were heartily welcomed. Being asked about our partners we told them that we had left them at home in Europe. In contrast to the friendliness we were shown in the beginning, we were told that only couples could dance at this club and that our arrival had stirred up "big problems". Our question on whether this also applied to the neighbouring clubs in Ft. Myers and Naples was affirmed. To sum it up we have to state that, at least in Florida, it is almost impossible for a group of men travelling without partners to enjoy our hobby. The reason for our disappointment was the fact that in 1998 our wives had travelled to South Carolina and had had a totally different experience. They were heartily welcomed everywhere and were repeatedly asked to visit other clubs. Our mistake was in expecting European conditions and not informing them that we were four men travelling alone. Innerhalb
unseres Florida-Urlaubs im Febr./März dieses Jahres wollten wir (vier
Männer) einen Clubbesuch in Cape Coral durchführen.
Wir hatten uns bei dem ortsansässigen Club ordnungsgemäß angemeldet, dabei aber nicht erwähnt, daß wir 4 Männer sind. Bei unserer Ankunft am Tanzort wurden wir herzlich begrüßt. Auf die Frage nach unseren Partnerinnen gaben wir zur Antwort, daß diese daheim in Europa sind. Danach schlug die anfängliche Freundlichkeit ins Gegenteil um. Man machte uns begreiflich, daß in dem Club ausschließlich Paare tanzen und durch unser Erscheinen "Big Problems" aufgetaucht sind. Unsere Frage, ob dies auch in den umliegenden Clubs in Ft. Myers and Naples der Fall sei, wurde bejaht. Als kurzes Fazit zu dem Besuch ist festzustellen, daß es zumindest in Florida als Gruppe von Männern fast unmöglich ist unserem Hobby nachzugehen. Unsere Enttäuschung war deshalb groß, weil unsere Frauen 1998 in South Carolina völlig gegenteilige Erfahrungen gemacht haben. Sie wurden überall herzlich begrüßt und immer wieder gebeten, doch auch diesen oder jenen Club noch zu besuchen. Unser Fehler war sicherlich, daß wir bei der Anmeldung zum Clubbesuch von europäischen Verhältnissen ausgegangen sind und nicht erwähnt haben, daß wir zu 4 Männern sind. Trotzdem paßt dieses Verhalten nicht zu den Grundsätzen des Square Dance: |
