"Vacation in Denmark / Urlaub in Dänemark"

In the March issue, the authors of the Vacation-in Denmark article promoted the tactic to join an incomplete square single and then request a partner from there. They said: 'This way there is no need for the usual compulsive date making for the next tip.' But I find that tactic very inconsiderate. It also sheds a bad light on the club that person belongs to. Just imagine the following situation (I have seen it happen more than once): in the middle of the dance floor there is an incomplete square of three couples and a single. They indicate that someone still is needed. A couple approaches just to find out only half of them would be needed. What are they to do? Go back? Split up and send one of them back? Push that single person out? Whatever they do, it will hurt someone.

Besides, I feel that a single dancer in an incomplete square is holding in hostage the whole dance floor, ransoming a partner from the audience; quite incompulsive, of course. Perhaps this is said a bit exaggerated, but it is as I see it.

Both men and ladies have equal rights to ask a partner for the next dance, and no one should refuse such an invitation without giving a valid excuse. Let us keep it that way.

Im März Bulletin empfehlen die Verfasser des Urlaub-in-Dänemark-Artikels die Taktik, sich als Einzelner in einen unvollständigen Square zu stellen und von dort aus einen Partner zu verlangen. Sie meinen: "So entfällt das zwanghafte Verabreden für den nächsten Tip." Ich finde hingegen ein solches Verhalten sehr rücksichtslos. Es wirft auch ein schlechtes Licht auf den Club, zu dem diese Person gehört. Stellt Euch folgende Situation vor (ich habe sie schon einige Male beobachtet): mitten auf der Tanzfläche steht ein unvollständiger Square aus drei Paaren und einer Einzelperson. Ein Paar kommt herbeigeeilt, um den Square aufzufüllen und merkt nun, daß nur eine Hälfte gebraucht wird. Was sollen sie tun? Zurückgehen? Sich aufteilen? Die Einzelperson verdrängen? Was sie auch tun, irgend jemand ist verletzt.

Überhaupt finde ich, daß eine Einzelperson im Square alle Tänzer in Geiselhaft nimmt, um einen Partner zu erpressen; ganz zwanglos, selbstverständlich. Das ist vielleicht etwas überspitzt formuliert, aber ich sehe das so.

Herren und Damen haben das gleiche Recht, einen Partner für den nächsten Tip zu bitten; und niemand sollte eine solche Einladung ohne einen triftigen Grund ausschlagen. Bleibt bei dieser Methode!
