Dear Bulletin Reader, Concerning the deadline on 10th of May, a lot of fax and e-mail letters were received just by the end of it. In consequence, Hansjörg, who had been on a business trip for a couple of days, had to deal with a stack of material meant to appear in the almost fully compiled bulletin on his return from the trip Saturday evening. We therefore would like to draw your attention to the following aspects: First of all, the mentioned deadline does not imply that all items meant for the bulletin should be sent in on the day given as deadline. Instead, all contributions should be received by the day of the deadline. Secondly, the time span from deadline to dispatch of the printing patterns is 5 days (or rather five evenings of working days) only. In this rather short time, we are unable to copy, translate and proofread as much as 12 pages of letters. Thirdly, we aim at having the Bulletin roughly compiled by the day given as deadline apart from a few pages reserved for truly topical items. Due to this schedule, some of the material received exactly on the day of the deadline can only be considered for the next but one issue. How to deal with the contents of letters sent, is an other issue. We always do our best to avoid any kind of censorship. As has already pointed out before, we are convinced that any criticism should be accompanied by suggestions for improvement. Secondly we want to give any person criticised directly the opportunity of an immediate statement in reply. The aim of printing both contributions in the same issue entails that both items can often only be published with a delay of at least one issue. Inspite of this, we would like to encourage everybody to send in letters - please write to us (and all our readers)! In order to keep the Bulletin from becoming dull, the members of the Convention Committee came up with something. the 'Bastel-Bulletin'. In the middle of this issue you'll find preliminary announcements together with the application form for our European Convention. Both can be taken out, leaving the Calendar in the issue's middle. As we have been informed, many people enjoy taking out the Calendar as well - it can then be taken along. Digging in our archieves once more, we brought to light an item from their very bottom: "As good today as it was in the past" is the headline of our findings, namely the 'Together' column by Rolf Schuster, editor of the 'Chatterbox'. August 1981: There it rolls again the big vacation wave. People drive to their destination of vacation or they do a round trip through different provinces. Some of us take certainly the advantage to attend the summer jamboree, this is perhaps the very first jamboree. Others travelling through want to visit other clubs to add some more signatures for the 13 necessary for the friendship badge. Please note that some clubs do not dance during vacations. One or the other club has certainly informed you on their vacation plans, but it is not sure that all the others do dance in this time. Therefore it is very important to announce the intended visit during vacation time. Only thus you can be sure that you will not be disappointed. In this respect I do hope that all clubs sent their probable changes in time for the contact list in this issue. I wish for you that everything goes right. Before I wish to you a wonderful vacation I want to mention a wish: don't forget square dancing longer than the summertime so that we can go on dancing together afterwards. Liebe Bulletin-Leserinnen und -Leser, Eine ganze Reihe von Zusendungen per Fax und e-Mail erreichte uns noch genau zum Redaktionsschluß am 10. Mai. Hansjörg war beruflich einige Tage unterwegs und saß am Samstagabend vor einem Stoß Papier, der noch ins Bulletin sollte, obwohl das Heft schon fast vollständig verplant war. Wir müssen um etwas Verständnis bitten: heißt Redaktionsschluß nicht, daß alles an diesem Tag eintreffen soll, sondern bis zu diesem Termin kommen kann. bleiben uns vom Schlußtermin bis zum Versand der Druckvorlagen normalerweise 5 Tage oder besser 5 Abende nach normalem Arbeitstag. In dieser Zeit können wir leider nicht noch ein Dutzend Seiten Text vom Fax abschreiben, ins Englische übersetzen und Korrektur lesen lassen. haben wir deshalb - bis auf einige Seiten für ganz Aktuelles - das Bulletin am Schlußtermin schon im Rohbau fertig. Einiges von dem, was in letzter Minute kommt, kann deshalb erst in der übernächsten Ausgabe berücksichtigt werden. Ein anderes Thema ist der Inhalt der Leserbriefe, die uns erreichen. Wir geben uns alle Mühe, uns nicht dem Vorwurf einer Zensur aussetzen zu müssen, aber wir haben auch schon vor einiger Zeit deutlich gesagt, daß nach unseren Vorstellungen zu einer Kritik auch ein Vorschlag zur Verbesserung der bemängelten Zustände gehört. Zum zweiten wollen wir jedem direkt Kritisierten die Möglichkeit geben, sich unmittelbar (im selben Heft) zu den Vorwürfen zu äußern - dies bedeutet allerdings meist eine Verzögerung um mindestens eine Ausgabe. Laßt Euch trotzdem nicht davon abhalten, uns und damit auch den anderen Lesern zu schreiben! Damit es nicht zu eintönig wird, haben sich die Kollegen vom Convention-Komitee etwas einfallen lassen: das Bastel-Bulletin. In der Heftmitte findet ihr die Vorankündigung und das Anmeldeformular zu unserer European Convention. Nach dem Herausnehmen habt Ihr wieder wie immer den Kalender in der Mitte, aber auch er wird, wie wir hörten, gern herausgetrennt und mitgenommen. Wir haben wieder einmal im Archiv gegraben und von ganz unten etwas ans Licht befördert, was wir Euch wieder unter dem Motto "heute noch so gut wie damals" vorstellen wollen: es ist eine 'Together'-Kolumne von Rolf Schuster, dem Herausgeber der 'Chatterbox': August 1981: Wieder rollt sie, die große Ferienwelle. Man fährt an sein Urlaubsziel oder macht eine Rundreise durch die verschiedensten Landschaften. Eine Reihe von uns nutzt sicher dabei die Gelegenheit, die Summer Jamboree zu besuchen, vielleicht sogar seine erste Jamboree. Andere wollen auf der Durchreise andere Clubs besuchen und sich eine weitere der 13 Unterschriften für das Friendship Badge ertanzen. Hier sei darauf hingewiesen, daß manche Clubs in den Ferien nicht tanzen. Der eine oder andere Club hat Euch sicher über seine Urlaubspläne informiert, doch ist nicht sicher, daß alle anderen durchtanzen. Deshalb ist es gerade in der Urlaubszeit besonders wichtig, seinen Besuch anzumelden. Nur so ist sichergestellt, daß Ihr keine Enttäuschung erlebt. Dazu hoffe ich nur, daß alle Clubs rechtzeitig für die in diesem Heft abgedruckte Kontaktliste ihre eventuellen Änderungen bekannt gegeben haben. Ich wünsche Euch, daß alles klargeht Bevor ich Euch nun einen wunderschönen Urlaub wünsche, noch einen Wunsch von mir: Vergeßt den Square Dance nicht länger als die Sommerpause dauert, damit wir hinterher gemeinsam in einem Square weitertanzen können.
