During the years after that the city grew larger and larger. Obviously the fact that it was situated directly behind the dunes with the beautiful beach was a reason for many to settle here.

Nowadays the city has reached the size of + 500,000 inhabitants. It is also the place where our majesty, Queen Beatrix has her beautiful palace "Huis ten Bosch". The Dutch Government and the Parliament are situated in The Hague as well. The chambers of Parliament meet in the buildings around the Binnenhof. Also most of the foreign embassies are present in the city.

At this moment the city is in the middle of a process of renovation and modernisation.

To celebrate this 750th anniversary the city has chosen the motto: DEN HAAG DANST (THE HAGUE DANCES). During the whole year many different of dancing will be shown, from ballet tot rock 'n roll, from folkdancing to ballroom dancing and many more. Squaredance will also be a part of the programme in a suiting environment: between the new townhall, the dance-theatre and the theatre-building. If the weather is not nice, we will be able to dance in the atrium of the townhall.

Squaredancing is scheduled on May 23-24th. If you are considering to take a short vacation in Holland, then come in the weekend of Ascension Day and stop at The Hague for a visit. We will do our best to organise a great weekend for you. As soon as the programme is fixed we will let you know.

Langsam aber sicher wurde die Stadt immer größer. Die schöne Lage, gleich hinter den Dünen mit dem prächtigen Strand, wird dazu beigetragen haben, daß sich hier viele Leute ansiedelten.

Inzwischen ist die Stadt auf ungefähr 500.000 Einwohner angewachsen. Dazu gehört auch Königin Beatrix mit ihrem prächtigen Schloß "Huis ten Bosch". Die niederländische Regierung und das Parlament haben hier ihren Sitz. Ihre Versammlungsräume befinden sich um den "Binnenhof" herum. Auch die meisten ausländischen Botschaften sind in Den Haag vertreten.

Momentan befindet die Stadt sich in einer Phase der Erneuerung und Modernisierung.

Um das 750-Jahresfest passend und froh zu gestalten, hat man es unter das Motto "DEN HAAG TANZT" gestellt. Über das ganze Jahr verteilt werden von allen möglichen Tanzarten Vorführungen gegeben, von Ballett bis Rock 'n Roll. Von Volkstanz bis Turniertanz usw. Auch Squaredance ist im Programm aufgenommen. In einer passenden Umgebung, mitten zwischen dem neuen Rathaus, dem 'danstheater ' und dem Theatergebäude werden wir tanzen können. Wenn das Wetter nicht mitmacht, können wir im Atrium des Rathauses tanzen.

Squaredance ist am Samstag, dem 23. Mai, und Sonntag, dem 24. Mai geplant. Wenn Ihr Euch noch über einen kurzen Hollandurlaub nachdenkt: macht ihn am Himmelfahrtswochenende und besucht auch Den Haag. Wir von unserer Seite werden versuchen, ein unvergeßliches Wochenende für Euch zu gestalten. Sobald das Programm endgültig feststeht, werden wir es Euch mitteilen.

DEN HAAG TANZT und die NVSD (der Niederländische Square- und Rounddance-Verband) freuen sich darauf, Euch an dem Wochenende begrüßen zu dürfen.
