Instead of wasting an evening in front of the TV with chips and beer and being angry about the program that doesn’t correspond to our expectations we are coming from a dance event. Tired, with feet’s once again greater than our shoes, but satisfied we are able to look back to a nice evening.

As it is with student parties, you meet a lot of angels and callers that you know already for years and that accompany their students loyal to their first dance event, but also students that came anxious and full with expectations to their first special.

It is pleasant that (at least in our region) a lot of young people joined the classes this year.

Many have they heard about friendship and togetherness of dancers, the mutual visits and the variety of the callers. Today they got their first impression. Our remembrance to this is the joy of dancing, the anticipation to the next club evening and the feeling of getting some margin to the daily routines; that’s what we always like to pass on to all other dancers.

Luckily most of us, even with all the desire for demanding dancing and the learning of new figures and levels, haven’t forgotten how much fun it is to witness the new dancers.

So this evening was surely a successful introduction into the Square Dance world for the students.

Square Dancing is surely not everything, for us it’s a demanding diversion to our often motionless daily routines. Not to speak of that our nice hobby, according to American surveys, contributes to the preservation of our mental possibilities (naturally we have this hope).

What’s really important for us and how do we organize our (free) time? This question has certainly been raised by anyone of us.

We are especially glad about so many and even young people that will spend their time in the presence of other people and share our hobby with us.

Anstelle den Abend mit Chips und Bier vor dem Fernseher zu verbringen und uns darüber zu ärgern, daß das Programm doch nicht unseren Vorstellungen entspricht, kommen wir gerade von einer Tanzveranstaltung. Müde, mit Füßen wieder einmal größer als die Schuhe, aber zufrieden können wir auf einen schönen Abend zurückblicken.

Wie das so ist bei Student Partys, man trifft eine Menge "Angels" und Caller, die man schon seit Jahren kennt und die treu ihre Students zur ersten Veranstaltung begleiten, aber auch die Students, die gespannt und voller Erwartungen zu ihrem ersten Special gekommen sind.

Erfreulich ist, daß (zumindest in unserer Region) in diesem Jahr viele junge Leute an den Classes teilnehmen.

Manches haben sie gehört über Freundschaft und das Miteinander der Tänzer, die gegenseitigen Besuche und die Vielfalt der Caller. Heute bekamen sie einen ersten Vorgeschmack. Unsere eigene Erinnerung an diese Zeit ist die Freude am Tanzen, die Vorfreude auf den nächsten Clubabend und das Gefühl, Abstand vom Alltag zu bekommen. Das ist es auch, was wir gern an andere Tänzer weitergeben wollen.

Glücklicherweise haben die meisten, bei allem Drängen nach anspruchsvollem Tanzen und dem Erlernen neuer Figuren und Level, noch nicht vergessen, wieviel Spaß es macht, die neuen Tänzer zu erleben.

So war dieser Abend für die Students sicherlich eine gelungene Einführung in die Square Dance Welt.

Square Dance ist natürlich nicht alles. Für uns ist es eine anspruchsvolle Abwechslung in unserem oft bewegungsarmen Alltag. Ganz zu schweigen davon, daß unser schönes Hobby nach amerikanischen Untersuchungen auch zur Erhaltung unserer geistigen Fähigkeiten beitragen soll (dieser Hoffnung geben wir uns natürlich gerne hin).

Was ist uns wirklich wichtig und wie teilen wir unsere (Frei-)Zeit ein? Diese Frage hat sich bestimmt schon jeder einmal von uns gestellt.

Wir freuen uns daher besonders, daß so viele, vor allem auch junge Leute ihre Zeit gern in Gesellschaft anderer Menschen verbringen und unser Hobby mit uns teilen wollen.
