Calvin “Cal” Golden passed away on August, 23rd, 2012

Cal Golden “The caller of the first hours”.

Cal Golden was one of the world's greatest callers, a superb showman and a tremendous personality. He was certainly the most colorful character, and his outfits had to be seen to be believed.  In his younger days he was known as the "Kid from Arkansas" and later given the title "the Man with the Golden Voice".

As one of the great pioneers of the fifties, Cal's presentations make impressive reading. Besides being the featured caller at the World Fair in Brussels in 1958 he could be seen on a 15 week TV show in Shreveport, Louisiana. In February 1968 at the Palace Hotel in St Moritz, 4 Kings danced toCal's calling and on October 3rd, 1968 he appeared with 8 squares on Germany's TV show "Vergiss-mein-nicht". This was viewed in 11 foreign countries by an audience of 125.000.000.

In 1955 he MC'd and called the foundation jamboree of EAASDC. On Sept. 2nd, 1957 Cal has received Life Time Honorary Membership by EAASDC and on July 3rd, 1976 this has been confirmed by an honorary speech for Cal.

Cal had a tremendous impact to the development of Square Dancing in Germany and worldwide. We say good bye to a friend who has been a great personality and a superior Caller.

In memoriam, the Board of EAASDC
