Friendship is Square Dancing's greatest reward

-

Is it dance? Is it sport?

It takes a team (of eight).

It takes music,

not necessarily Country & Western,

Rock, Pop, Classic, Hip-Hop, Rap, Reggae, Rock'n Roll, Soul, Techno

(almost) anything goes as long as it is music.

Square dance
is international.

Square dance means
team work - doing it together.

Square dance schools
responsivness and  endurance.

Square dance
requires concentration.

Square dance is
moving to the beat of the music.

Square dance means
variety.

Square dance schools
sense for the music and spatial thinking.

But foremost square dance is FUN.

Square dance is not learned by heart,

a Square dancer learns moves.

A Caller calls (!) moves and sequences of moves.

The eight dancers in a square must listen to the Caller and then execute the moves together to the beat of the music.

This means not learning moves by heart but thinking quickly.

This means always something new and never boredom.

There are no set groups but after dancing together for about 15 minutes you thank each other and form a new group for the next "tip" or take a break if you wish.

Square dancers always want to meet and dance with new people, so square dancing is not only for couples but singles as well.

Square dancers can dance the world over after finishing their class ("graduation") and all clubs always welcome visitors.

(Almost) anyone can learn Square Dance.
