I was introduced to square dancing through an adult education class and then looked online for clubs near where I live. Even the open houses were very welcoming, so we took the class as a whole family. There were 17 newcomers in the class back then. Two of my children are still involved in square dancing, although they can%u2019t attend regular club nights due to work commitments. Only two stopped dancing after the class.Back then, what I appreciated most was the chance to take part in a hobby together as a family. It really strengthened our family bond. Plus, it%u2019s such a great sense of accomplishment when you learn your first steps and can then dance together with everyone else in the square to the music. It doesn%u2019t really matter whether you can keep exactly in time (as you have to in round dancing) or are just going with the flow. That way, I was able to dance with my husband at the time, something we hadn%u2019t done since the childless days of our marriage. At the first student party, some of the first people from our class bought petticoats%u2014it was that much Anm. d. Square Dance habe ich durch einen VHS Kurs kennengelernt, und ich habe mich dann im Internet %u00fcber Clubs in der N%u00e4he meines Wohnortes informiert. Schon die Open Houses waren sehr einladend, so dass wir mit der ganzen Familie die Class gemacht haben. Wir waren damals 17 Neulinge in der Class. Von meiner Familie sind immer noch 2 Kinder mit dem Square Dance verbunden, obwohl sie aus beruflichen Gr%u00fcnden keine regelm%u00e4%u00dfigen Clubabende besuchen k%u00f6nnen. Nur zwei haben nach der Class nicht mehr getanzt.Ich selbst sch%u00e4tzte damals vor allem die M%u00f6glichkeit, gemeinsam mit der Familie ein Hobby auszu%u00fcben. Das hat den Familienzusammenhalt sehr gest%u00e4rkt. Au%u00dferdem hat man ein super Erfolgserlebnis, wenn man die ersten Figuren lernt und dann mit den anderen im Square zusammen zur Musik tanzen kann. Dabei ist es auch nicht so wichtig, ob man genau den Takt halten kann (wie im Round Dance n%u00f6tig) oder einfach nur so mitl%u00e4uft. So konnte ich mit meinem damaligen Mann auch zusammen tanzen, was wir seit der kinderlosen Zeit unserer Ehe nicht mehr getan hatten.
